Has anyone used Ipakatine in a diabetic kitty ?

Vet wants Babu to get some but it worries me it would affect his FD because it has lactose in it, he's phosphuros is still within limits but raising and on the high side, plus vet says the other ingredients on ipakatine can help versus using just plain calcium carbonate and aluminum hidroxide is not available down here.

I think you could order the aluminum hydroxide from thrivingpet.com

I thried both on the powder form and pills but apparently to get it through costumes besides having to pay around 300 dolars for one bottle I need to get the aluminum hidroxide tested by a certified lab and a special permission form a government agency that at best once I fulfill all the requirements takes about 9 months for them to answer and that of course includes an extra fee for the permit and still when all the paperwork is through no grarentee that they would allow me to import it

That's what I'm afraid of since Babu is in remission so I'm guessing I'll be having a long talk with the vet because his phosphuros levels ain't that bad so I'm not shure it's worth the risk

    Bummer. :(

I had just ordered from there and remembered they did ship internationally.

I wonder if you could get AH from a lab or lab supply place?

What about checking with a pharmacist to see if they could order it for you?

I talked with the vet and he actually wants Babu to take the Ipakatine not so much because of it's phosphorus binding properties but for it's effects on uraemic toxins because the other ingredients besides calcium carbonate (chitosan I think) because Babu's phosphorus levels are quite controlled right now with the diet, so I think we are going to pass on using it for the time being, I think the risk of Ipakatine raising his BG levels is far worse than any benefit he may get from it. I may try an get the chitosan alone but I'm not sure someone has used it like that ( something to think and research about)

I can get calcium carbonate alone here if it comes to it and I will keep researching some other phosphorus binders to see what are my options when it comes to it since it appears aluminium hydroxide is not going to be an option
