Diamond has his pm shot about 1.5 hrs ago. I was just snuggling with him and smelled insulin (lantus) on the back of his neck. I know the needle went in. Can the insulin come back out. I have a habit of running my hand over the injection site right after I shoot him. Could I possibly be squeezing the insulin out?

If there was any Lantus on the outside of the needle when you injected it can be deposited on the fur and will leave its distinctive smell behind. It's also best to not rub the injection site with any pressure - a light stroke should be OK. Your numbers will tell you if you had a partial fur shot or not.

I have this (bad) habit of super sniffing Rufus after every shot because I'm paranoid that I had a fur shot. Now my brain is so confused that I have phantom smells of it. But back to your question, I have noticed that too, when he is not "wet" but the smell is there. Maybe we just didn't get deep enough? On a layer closer to the skin perhaps?
