AMPS 268! She had a weird up/down bobble cycle last night, I'm guessing that's a post vet freakout, but hey, I got a lot of sleep because of that! ;)

+2.5 188, I guess onset isn't +3 after all? Maybe more like +2.5? Going to get more +2.5s to see if that's true.

Asia seems to be doing much better, quite suddenly! She's joining the party more and coming to hang around with us in other parts of the home, bright eyed, staying hydrated and not vocalizing when being picked up! She is a chatty cat and I can most of the time tell what she wants to say by the noises she makes. She is super affectionate and lovable, but has never liked to be picked up, it's as if she's always had somewhere to go and if you picked her up you were slowing her down. Well she doesn't mind being picked up since FD diagnosis and in fact seems relieved you are taking the trouble away from her having to get wherever she is going. That being said, and as gentle as I try to be, she makes an "I'm uncomfortable" noise when you pick her most of the time. Not anymore! I wonder if that was a kidney infection/panc thing and it has subsided?

Vet didn't think she had any inflammation issues going on at the moment, so that's nice. Maybe it really took 4 weeks of antibiotics to see the full effect, I hope this continues! My vet isn't working today but she said I could call and ask the front desk to send the labs to me so I have them and she will call me on Monday to discuss. Everything crossed over here for some less awful creatinine and BUN numbers! PLEASE! Hope her phosphorous level remains down and if I'm not being too greedy, lower than last time. :cat:

Daughter is having surgery early Monday morning, will give Asia her insulin an hour earlier than usual, shouldn't be an issue as she's usually pretty high at AMPS, but watch her decide to give me a green preshot that day . Younger daughter will be here to monitor. The only problem is I give bupe around +1 to +2 and no way younger daughter is getting in Asia's mouth to do that, I have enough trouble myself and bupe in the eye to prove it! Guess I will start trying to give it to her a bit earlier so we are all set for Monday.

Rufus loves to be picked up, but when the panc is bad, he isn't too happy about being picked up. Almost like he grumbles when he knows I'm coming for him :) Glad Asia is feeling better! And good luck with daughters surgery! Crossing fingers and toes for your whole fam!

Good report on Asia. I hope and pray her kidney infection is completely gone. Best Of Luck on the test results, I hope her creatinine, BUN, and phosphorous levels have all come down.
Sending good surgery vines to your daughter on Monday.

So glad to hear Asia is doing so well, and it sounds like lots of good news from the vet yesterday! Fingers crossed her labwork looks good as well :cat:

Funny how you describe Asia not wanting to be picked up as Darwin is much the same. He LOVES people, and is the most affectionate kitty I've had, but he does not like being picked up. He will tolerate it now for a quick kiss on the head once in a while (I simply cannot help myself sometimes), but I know he needs to go right down or he will resent it.

Hoping your daughter has a successful surgery and a short recovery period.:bighug::bighug:

That's great news about Asia. Seems the 4 wks of antibiotics, and your skillful care let Asia turn the corner.

Love the Asia report today. :joyful: Neko liked to be held. I miss that. :(

Paws crossed for improved b/w numbers.

As for the bupe, it's best to have a little food on board before giving it. I used to give it as soon as Neko finished her PS meal.

Yes, she’s just always been like that, she loves people and attention but she has a few rules. She’s not a lap cat either, wants to be very close to you, but not on top of you. It’s just how she was made I guess. :joyful: I think she and Darwin would get along quite well! :cat:

Haha, too funny! It’s sounds like they would! Darwin loves other kitties as well - he thinks our two civvies are his best friends, but realistically they only tolerate him :p

    Aw, Neko. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

The day the vet was coming to put her to sleep (which is also the day we figured out it was her teeth and saved her from that fate), I put her on my chest and just laid there with her for a long time, she stayed. It was not something she would normally like, but she seemed to be content in that moment, it was heartbreaking. Only time that has ever happened and I’m okay with that, it’s not a good sign if she wants to be held or lay on me!

As far as the bupe, food is pretty much always on board with this girl, so it shan’t be an issue! :joyful:

Okay, some good news...I think! I’m far from fluent in lab work, and my vet isn’t working again until Monday and will call to discuss results then, but I had them email me results today anyway. Here’s my novice interpretation of what’s going on:

Most exciting, creatinine has gone from 3.9 to 3.4 to 2.1! :woot: The range is .6-2.4, so 2.1 is in a normal range? What?! :)

BUN remains high, which is likely due in part to her high protein raw food diet, but is has gone from 134 to 128 to 79! Range is 14-36. I’ll take it!

SDMA remains high, from what I understand, SDMA trumps creatinine, but they are used in conjunction. SDMA went from 29 to 26, so slight reduction there.

Look like anemia or borderline anemia is still in the picture. I think I will try to add the B complex back, maybe I can put it in a cap and put cheese on it and she will eat it. I’m still giving methyl b12 injections every other week. Not sure what else to do to stave this off.

Her electrolytes are a bit whack: low chloride, high potassium, and low sodium, what’s that about? From what I’m reading about these values, it is possible that this is aluminum toxicity from the p binders, but they say that’s rare, so I really don’t know. MCV level is on borderline low as well, so she could need iron and be anemic or it could be too much aluminum, or she could be anemic from the aluminum?

She also has high monocytes and some of these values seem to be easily manipulated if your cat is having hyperglycemia, which at the moment they did the blood test, she was in the 400s! :banghead:

T4 is 2.3 which is in the normal range, but lab report says 2.3 is a “grey area” for older or symptomatic cats. Her prior value for this last she was checked in September was 1.5, so any thyroid experienced people want to weigh in, I’m all ears...

Phos is down to 5.7 from 5.9, but we still want it to be lower as I understand.

@Marje and Gracie whatever you find the time, I’ve updated the labs in my SS if you can give your opinion

Forgot to add that, 5.7 down from 5.9, as far as I understand, would still like it to be a bit lower, Marje said the upper end of the normal range applies to growing kittens.

Overall, sounds like a good lab report, compared to previous ones, but Marje will shed some light, I'm sure.

Harvey and Cinco both hated to be picked up or held. Harvey would stand in my lap for pets, but not for long, and no sitting or laying there. Natasha does not like to be held, either, but she will jump up in my lap and curl up sometimes. Meanwhile, civvie Sasha loved nothing better than to be held and carried around. I even got a baby sling to put her in after her leg amputation. She gave the most wonderful hugs - all the doctors and techs at UCD adored her because of the way she would crawl up to your shoulder so she could hug you. Sigh. I miss that.

Sending truckloads of good vines for your daughter's surgery Monday, and a few :bighug:s for nervous parents (you sound pretty calm, but I know there has to be a little stress underneath).

+10 54...just putting this out there in advance, let it be known Asia will not earn a reduction today if she dips slightly below 50 by +11. Normally, I would give Karo right now, but it’s so near the end of the cycle, I want to see what she does on her own and just gave her some radcat instead. Experimenting and preventing reductions don’t go hand in hand sometimes, so I’m building an escape clause! :p

That is so sweet about Sasha! Civvie Toki is that way. She will sit on you, lay on you, loves to be carried around on my shoulder, she’s a big baby. Funny thing is, I wouldn’t call her a lap cat either, she’s far too busy most of the time. When she lays on you, 99% of the reason is because she is cold. She does wrap herself around my girls at night though, she’s so very attached to them.

Thanks, I am playing it cool becuase that is my job and I would never let the girls know I’m anything but confident and positive about the whole mess. I will be proper freaking out once she goes back by herself tomorrow. That’s when I will be walking laps in the parking lot and texting my friends who will send me stupid and outrageous things to distract me, just like when my other daughter had her appendectomy.

Loving those kidney numbers - much improved! That's great news! That SDMA is still a bit high, but improved, and her urine is concentrated, which is great! From what I know, the SDMA and USG are the best indicators of kidney function. Seems to be good news overall :cat:

I wouldn't worry about that right now. I'd keep testing that to see if it continues to go up. Tanner, my civvie, had his T4 rise before he had some FORLS removed and it went back down for a while before rising again into definitive hyperthyroidism. Methimazole is a harsh drug so I wouldn't want to add that to the mix you have going on right now.

    Great labs! :woot::woot:

YAY for good lab results! Nice +10 and nicer still that she managed it on her own!
Boomer never liked to be held but is used to it now since I always have to pick him up to put him on his table for testing/shots. He loves to sit beside us (especially DH) and have his belly rubbed but only occasionally sits on me although over the last week or two he's been sitting on my lap or legs a couple of times each day!
Allen absolutely hates to be held/carried! But loves sitting on DH.

Thanks for the reassurance, I definitely would not like to add more meds to the mix, and certainly not harsh ones, but it looks like something I need to keep an eye on regardless.

It' a good news day for Asia!
The hematocrit is good. Creatinine can be dramatically affected by water intake. Yum's dropped to 1.7 but only because she was drinking so much water at the time.
Water intake might influence the sodium and chloride levels too.
The drop in the SDMA is great. As is the BUN.
Tanya's crf page lists 6 as the worry number for phosphorus.
The best news is Asia is feeling so good!

Where did you read about the aluminum toxicity effects on bloodwork? On Tanya's pages? I will have to read about that again.
I think one time my vet said monocytes could indicate infection. Yum's were elevated in the fall and they have been falling since then.

I will try to find it again, it wasn’t on Tanya’s site, I was looking at individual values and what they can mean and all that electrolyte stuff, one possible cause was aluminum toxicity. If I can dig it up again, I will pass it along.
