    Yesterday: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/02-23-furball-10-230-amps-251-9-5-223-pmps-245.191592/

Furball was happy & purry this morning. She surprised me with blue. It didn't look like she was going to come down last night so I didn't get any tests. I hope she doesn't bounce today.

I gave Simba another dose of the transdermal bupe this morning. She doesn't like me messing with her ear. It will take us a little bit to get into a routine, but at least I can give her the medicine this way. I'd never get it in her mouth. Thanks everyone for your support yesterday. It helps me get through those stressful days.

I don't know if this has been covered/suggested before, but have you tried one of those "pill throwers"? I was very skeptical and never even tried with my Tounsi, who was near to impossible to pill. But a few weeks back when it became impossible to give my civvie Erica her pills without getting bitten, I decided to give it a shot (ha! ha!) and it has been a life-changer.

Thanks for the suggestion, but the problem is she clamps her jaw shut and shakes her head from side to side if you try to open her mouth.

Can you tell if the TD bupe is helping any with the discomfort?

FB is looking great. Maybe a green coming?

I just got caught up on your condos. I’m so sorry about the cancer diagnosis for Simba. I wouldn’t want to be forcing anything in her mouth even with a pill popper. The pill gun helped with Tiffany but she had intestinal lymphoma. I sure hope the transdermal works. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I'm not sure yet. Last night she went to sleep in my lap. This morning I've been out running errands. I'm planning to keep an eye on her this afternoon.

Thanks Elise. I'm not going to try and mess with her mouth at all. I wouldn't want to hurt her.

Don't bounce, Furball. Lookin' good in blue.:cool:

Simba sounds like a handful. Here's hoping she soon relaxes and takes the transdermal ear intment in stride.

It does seem like her mouth is bothering her less. I think it is helping.

definitely problematic. Have you tried "desensitising" over a decent period of time? I started doing that with Tounsi at some point. He was the wriggle champion. As soon as you tried to grab his head or open his mouth he would just do as yours, shake his head and wriggle out. So what I started doing was when I was petting him and he was relaxed, I'd pet him on the head and just briefly stop/hold his head. Short enough that he didn't react. And continued petting. I'd do it again and again, paying attention to staying under his "no more of this!" threshold. After some weeks of this (multiple times a day, whenever I had a chance) I was able to actually hold his head in my hand from the top, as I'd hold a cat head to tilt it backwards to pill. Then I worked towards tilting the head back -- all the while with scritches and congratulations.
I didn't take it much further (some laziness on my part) but compared to where I started I'd gone a long way!

Went thru the same with desensitizing kitties to toenail clipping. When writing about my problems with toenail clipping, this process was inspired by someone asking me , "Do you play with your cars' feet?"
