Darn it all! I'm holding her and just had the syringe up to her fur - pulled up a batch of skin so I could see - aimed and shot - there it is sitting in her fur - never got it into her skin - I could see the big droplet sitting there - picked it off and smelled it - odd smell - certainly was the Lantus - so that I'm 99% sure I missed completely - she was wiggling around a bit - wanted to eat!

So I fed her - now what? I'm pretty certain she didn't get any insulin at all - but I remember everyone saying here - NO second tries. So do we really have to wait 12 hours before trying any at all? Would a tiny amount hurt her? Her numbers have been so terrible - I just don't know how I did that - just had my finger on the plunger and it seemed to go off before I got it into her skin - I was looking at the spot to put it - wanted to be sure and missed completely!!! I'm so aggravated with me at this moment for missing :( :( :(

    Advice? Wait?

I believe you need to wait until the next shot time. You really don’t want to chance extra insulin and a hypo event. She will get back on track soon. We have all done it. :bighug:

I've been worried all night about increasing her dose to 2 u. and now when I'm ready to start - I guess I was just too anxious, nervous? Waaaa! I hate to do it at night because it'll require being up late - even DH is getting tired and needs some sleep - he takes the early PM shift and I get up later if needed...Lately her numbers don't require anyone getting up or even staying up too late since shes running so high - but if I go to 2 u I want to watch her closely - her pattern has usually been on Day 2 - to take a dive - but one never knows with cats - when they'll decide to do the deep dive - might be we have to increase tomorrow morning - when we're all ready! I'm so bummed! Had planned my day to stay close to home for her :(

Sorry, Sue! Yes, we've all been there. My fur shots were always terribly placed and on the worst possible cycles. Luci will be fine. Still get a test or two in, you never know how much got it and what the depot has to say about it too. :bighug:

Increasing tonight despite the fur shot will be totally fine. We all do it as Stacy said.

Fur shots are indeed a drag. If I had a
dollar for each one I gave...I’ve even given back to back fur shots :banghead::banghead::banghead:

Back when my BK was in the thick of it, between using 2 insulins and his high doses I was shooting 4 times per cycle. My hands were so shaky and slow at times I decided to split his 12-13u Lantus doses into 2 syringes. It worked pretty good. About the time BK started his final descent down the dosing ladder I was diagnosed with young onset Parkinson’s (which explained my difficulties). In spite of the mishaps he made it safely to the Falls :D

    It will be OK.

Awww...so sweet of you to share your story with me! Everyone here has been so nice and supportive. It's easy to beat ourselves up isn't it? Luci has been having such a time - seems like in spite of everything I do - she just won't get near the lagoon - much less get her little black butt over to the Falls! I'm so glad Black Kitty is there now! What a relief that must be for you :)

Thank you for sharing :) :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Luci and I have had a day! She has been so terribly HUNGRY today! She's not at all happy about her new diet - no food except for PS times - she thinks that's ridiculous! So much so, that she got on the stove today and unwrapped a dishtowel - then removed a loaf of fresh bread from Costco from the plastic wrapper and helped herself! She's having one of those 'I'll show you mom!!' So I expect her BG to go crazy at some point from eating all those carbs! She settled down after getting 1/2 can of FF beef - and then again at PMPS - another half can - she will not be starved...and mom better learn to put her carbs away!

She has received her first 2 unit injection this evening - I'll check her at 2+ - hope to get DH to do a check at 3 or 4+ and let me know if she's headed down - I'll set my alarm to get a 5 or 6+ and then go from there. With all the bread - I'm not expecting to see any low numbers tonight - that girl seems to be doing everything she can to avoid the lagoon!

Yes, it is because we care so much about our fur babies!
She will get there eventually, in her own time. It took Gizmo a long time. Believe it or not, one day you will get a blue number and think yikes that is high! I couldn’t believe it the first time I was actually disappointed with a number in th 100s. :joyful:

Thanks! So I took a look at Gizmo's SS - why the teaspoon of pumpkin every morning? Just curious..

I thought he was constipated, so I started it to help. Turns out it was actually my civvie cat who was constipated. But it actually helps with loose stools also and the added fiber doesn’t hurt. So I figured just a good thing to keep giving.

Do you know if there is a glossary of terms here on the FDMB board? Civvie? I'm assuming is a non-diabetic cat? Bean = mom? Some of these terms - too funny! Takes me a while to figure out what the heck everyone is talking about :) :) Poor bean!

Yes, you are correct on those terms. I will look up the link for the glossary and post it for you. Give me a minute.

    Glossary

If you have a chance, look through the stickies at the top of the forum page. They contain a lot of information. Takes time to digest it all. Just keep asking questions ... everyone is more than willing to help.

Thank you so much! I've read several of those stickies - even printed out some! And reading other people's posts has been very helpful too! As I've mentioned - everyone here has just been wonderful! So supportive and helpful! I could not have done this without all of you!
Thank you again and have a great evening!

He’s there in spirit; he crossed the rainbow bridge nearly 2 years ago.
It was indeed, particularly since about 2 weeks prior to the Parkinson’s diagnosis I was diagnosed with breast cancer...and DBF was layed off due to the recession... It all worked out; while I recovered from surgery DBF was available to take care of BK. Four days after my first round of chemo, BK started his OTJ trial.:D
Hang in there and hang in here. BK was the last cat anyone ever imagined would make it to the Falls however he did just that and remained there 6.5 years, which was the rest of his life :D
You never know what Luci may have up her sleeve.
