My Jaxa was just diagnosed last Saturday, and she is a fat kitty at 18 lbs. The vet started us at 2 units twice a day, and after her vet appt on Tuesday he wanted us to go to 3 units twice a day. I did give her 3 that night but I have been testing at home and got some advise about maybe keeping it closer to 2.25 to see how that works.

Okay, so this is the current dilemma; she would have a shot in about 30 minutes but I just tested her with relion complete monitor and it came out as 207 mg/dl. She has not eaten for most of the day, but had been in the room with food for two hours before I just got home. I don't know if I should give her the shot or not, and of course the vet office is closed already. Should I skip the shot and check later to see what her levels are, giving her the next shot at the usual morning time, give less at her usual time tonight? I don't want to risk hypo.

I think I'd still want to give a shot. Can you monitor tonight? Get a +2 at least to ensure that she isn't dropping too fast?

I'm not sure what a +2 is exactly, everything's still pretty new for us.

Whoops! I'm so sorry. A +2 means a test 2 hours after the shot. We talk in hours after shot here since we're all in different time zones. :)

Why not stall without feeding another half hour and see if the number is going up or not. What are her preshots typically? Do you think this weekend you could work on a spreadsheet? It would really help us give better advice in situations like this. If you have trouble with it someone could help set it up for you.

I do need to do a spreadsheet, I just haven't had time to think for five minutes in a row this week. I think we can push her shot back a little, I've been trying to adjust for daylight savings but we have a couple more days for wiggle room maybe?

You don't need a lengthy adjustment phase with ProZinc. It has up to an hour's flexibility in dose timing. You could ignore the whole DST adjustment thing altogether and she'd probably be OK.

Have you retested yet? What did you get?

Retested an hour after first test and it was at 302. Gave her 2 unit shot, will test in +2. She just ate a bit of food, Young Again.

I just wanted to say hi to you and Jax! and welcome! It is a lot to learn all at once. Just take it one step at a time, and ask as many questions as you need.

I see you got the SS up and going! That'll help us to help you for sure. Thank you for doing that!

Now I'm worried because she woke me up vomiting this morning and had diarrhea over night. She seems okay otherwise and I tested at +6 (293) and just now at +11 (249). I cannot test ketones yet.

She only wanted to eat the new Young Again food samples we had gotten yesterday, but hasn't eaten anything overnight as far as I can tell. So I don't know if she has stomach upset from food switching and I should give cerenia, or if I should call a vet.

I can't stay home to monitor today; work in two hours and I'd try to drop her off at vet on the way if I could- they open after I typically leave for work though so tricky. Or leave her home and hope my mother would bring her in if needed.

There have been a few people that have reported diarrhea when first starting the Young Again, but I don’t recall if they had vomiting as well. @JanetNJ Not sure if her cat CC was one that had diarrhea or not, but she feeds YA and might have more info.

Jaxa did just want to eat her morning treats, and is trying to clean herself, moving from room to room without trouble. I feel like I should give her the am shot and call the vet later, as long as nothing else happens in the meantime.

Adding; she did just drink but has not wanted to eat her regular food this morning. She has peed, her normal schedule, no odd smells, and I gave her 1/4 cerenia with her 1/2 ondansetron and 1/3 cyproheptadine; antienemic, anti nausea and appetite stimulant. Vet had said to wean off so we are still on a slow schedule for those.

Thanks for the SS! :) It could be the food switch that's upsetting her if she's prone to a sensitive tummy. The diarrhea could be from the YA. If she's eaten a little of something I'd give her the shot and leave food out for her when you go. If your mom is there to keep an eye on her that's good.

Poor thing! Food change can cause tummy upset and YA has done that as Sharon mentioned. I hope she feels better soon!

The only time she did is if she ate too much in the beginning. No problem now. My cat Julie on the other hand needs to only eat 3 pieces of it and she'll have the runs for 2 weeks. She must have a sensitivity to pork.
