    Nothing much to report here, frustrated/overwhelmed/confused and sad with Asia’s situation and feeling like I’m just waiting around for her to make turn for the worse since we don’t really know what is going on and pain management is the only thing being done about it.

    Asia is pretty lethargic in these higher numbers and that I cannot stand, because it’s a problem all by itself, when her numbers are better, she perks right up. Pancreatitis can elevate the BG and higher BG can aggravate the pancreatitis. A bit of a catch 22. I started TID yesterday to see if it helps any. I’m only going to continue if it makes a good and significant change for her, it’s exhausting as I suspected it would be and haven’t even had 24 hours of it yet. :p Until I can figure a way to splice my SS, her new data is in the Asia TID tab, it’s not as useful as seeing everything together, but I needed a proper visual so I could make sense of what is going on, so it will have to do for now.

    Is the pain from the pancreatitis? Or something that hasn't been determined yet?

    We don’t know. It could be from pancreatitis (SpecfPL was 50) and that’s what I’m going with in the absence of a diagnosis.

    :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug: It's so hard when things are off and they can't tell us what it is...and us FD beans are so sensitive to everything with our furbabies. Pain management can be very helpful...it's comforting to know that at the very least they can be more comfortable even if we don't know or are unable to figure out what's going on. When I start feeling down about kitty issues, I try to remind myself how far veterinary medicine has come and how years ago (not even that long ago), we didn't have the tools to help them feel better that we have today. Her numbers are looking good so far today...good luck with TID!!!

    I’m just frustrated because thus far, her conditions have been manageable (unfortunately only manageable because I did all the leg work to figure out what was happening in the first place). If this isn’t something that will pass or can be managed or would require chemo, etc. I can completely accept that. It’s not knowing and feeling like there could be something done more proactively to help her, but we are just waiting for it to get worse and that really bothers me. I feel like Asia’s case is out of scope of what my vet is used to dealing with, she hasn’t recommended an IM and I cannot go to one without a referral (and I don’t even know if I would put Asia through yet another visit/start over not knowing if the next vet is just more of the same, honestly). I have a good working relationship with her, she’s caring and I like her, but that does not ease my mind as far as what’s happening presently.

    I feel your frustration :bighug::bighug::bighug:...If you get the name of an IM, would your vet give you the recommendation? Are you close enough to Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in Tinton Falls to give them a try? It's been many, many years since I've been there, but the are one of those hospitals that has everything. I think this is where Dyana took her J.D. for a dental when he was very senior, too.

    Oh no, sorry to hear that! :arghh: Here, have some hugs: :bighug::bighug::bighug:

    I understand that so well. It's one thing to have an animal who is ill and clearly on the way out, and another to have one that seems unwell or in pain and you don't know what more to do to relieve her, and worry that she's suffering needlessly because there's probably a solution for what she has if only you can figure it out.

    More hugs :bighug::bighug: and vines.

    Thanks, Amy. I’m going to try to carefully bring it up with her. We have a good working relationship and I don’t want her to think I feel she is incompetent because that’s not it exactly, I just don’t think she often deals with senior cats with multiple conditions and not many vets have dealt with many 21 year old cats to begin with. We have AMC right here, it has a stellar reputation and they do a lot of trials there. Red Bank is about 90 minutes by car, so it’s possible, but a closer to home option would be better for Asia.

    Thanks, Stephanie, that’s exactly what I mean. Somehow I think if she were younger, it wouldn’t be so much a wait and see approach. None of us have a crystal ball, she could be meant to live to 23 and assuming something like that could be true, she deserves care.

    Ach. So tough isn't it.
    I actually asked my vet last visit how many people they had with geriatric cats of Ty's age or older , with multiple issues/diabetes and a pro-active home testing person. There was a ....pause. They have one other person who home tests their pusscat. Just the one.

    I'm sad to read that Asia is feeling off . It is these moments when we wish with all our hearts they would suddenly magically utter a few words like Ears/Teeth/Tummy/Sick/Pain right HERE but they can't. So we end up doing and and & they try to tell us best they can with what they have.

    You have big hugs. For us with our very elderly geriatric cats the balance is a bit different isn't it , coz we need to think is it a real end life time or is it simply feeling unwell for some reason.

    Thanks and exactly right, it’s a tremendous balancing act. But you know, any time a cat gets really sick you have to wonder if it’s the end or not, they just seem to be very healthy until they are not and because they take so long to show something is off, it’s always an urgent situation. They say they hide it when they don’t feel well, but I swear Asia let’s on at home, it’s when she goes to the vet she is stoic and doesn’t react to things I know are painful for her, I think some of that is a fear response, like if they think they are in danger, they have to mask being unwell. Asia sends an arthritic head nuzzle to Ty. :bighug:

    So sorry, I hate pancreatitis. One moment their fine, next, I wonder is it worth putting her through. Like diabetes isn't enough. All the other issues our babies have to go thru. Big hugs to you and head bumps to your senior girl.

    Yes, it’s a very busy time of year for us and busy weekend, I will post tomorrow. Asia is doing better, I think the antibiotics are doing what they need to do and her acute issue is waning (I hope).
