    Good morning!
    AMPS 126 shooting 1.0u

Boomer ate all of his overnight fuds except for part of the +6.

Allen ate all of his overnight fuds and had a poop! Thank you for all the vines and suggestions yesterday! :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug: This morning I gave him his usual cisapride and diazoxide and also 3ml of the lactulose and I will be contacting Dr Larry this morning to find out about a maintenance dose as the one cisapride each day obviously wasn't enough. I might also try some oil in Allen's food but I'm not sure he will eat it...is Olive oil or vegetable oil ok? I'll start with a couple of drops and go from there.

We missed the expected storms yesterday although other parts of London got it and surrounding towns got it bad! The wind really picked up here and there was a few minutes of heavy rain but that was it.

Today on the agenda: well DH is golfing until early afternoon so I'm at home with Boomer. And there's always stuff to do around here and I have lots of editing to do!

Today's wildlife photo is of a male Downy Woodpecker taken near one of our local ponds.

Yay for poop. I don't know about the oil. I'm glad Boomer ate well. Great picture.

I'm glad Allen pooped! You may need to keep lactulose in the mix but that could be a balancing act. I'm not sure about the oils but I do give Moo a smidge of unsalted butter on her paw. She's been good in the poop dept. Booms, you're looking good buddy :D

We have a resident woodpecker that prefers to peck on the metal AC unit outside my bedroom in the morning

I could try that! I do give Allen a very tiny amount of butter after his meds to encourage him to swallow (as he tends to hide them, spit them out later). But I don't think it's enough to help.
We have a pair of woodpeckers in our area which visit occasionally. They like to peck at our brick house and our deck

Dr Larry wanted to prescribe pilocarpine which is an eye medication but apparently will help with motility. I indicated that I'd rather not have yet another med added to the mix and that I'd like to stick with the cisapride/lactulose.
I asked if one cisapride and one 3ml dose of lactulose would be good on an ongoing basis and he indicated to start with more and work my way down in doses depending on what Allen does.
sigh. I was hoping for something a little more precise

3ml seems like a lot. Do you add it to his food? Rusty was originally prescribed 1.5ml and I thought that looked like a lot. If you try putting oil in his food, I would stick with pure canola oil because it has a very mild flavor. Some olive oils are spicy.

Nice to see Deputy Boomer at the lagoon this morning. Great picture of the woodpecker.

I don't add it to his food, it goes directly into the mouth. He actually doesn't seem to mind it. I have no idea whether it's a lot or not!
I tried adding a wee bit of olive oil to his "buffet" foods and he didn't eat. I just replaced all of the foods, no oil added, and he still didn't eat. Well, he licked a bit at one and that was it. But when I went into his room to close his buffet (due to Boomer the Hoover) the room really smelled :blackeye: so I think the lactulose may have caused some gas  and possibly a bit of discomfort with it.

I think it was Chris (@Chris & China ) who told me that lactulose isn't actually absorbed in the intestines, but helps with elimination only at the end of the colon. That's why it doesn't affect the bg. Allen's gas may be owing to one of the other things he is getting. I hope his poop made him more comfortable.

Yay for poop!!! I'm sure he must feel better now, and I'm sure you'll get the new balance figured out for him.

When I was running errands today, I saw some awkard teenage geese that were just so cute and thought of you!

Laculose is "dose to effect" meaning you adjust the dose to get the outcome you want. Too much can cause diahrea and gas. As a data point, Rosie gets 1.5 ml 2x / day. When she had trouble w/ constipation recently, I increased it to 2 ml 2x / day. That didn't solve the constipation, but it did cause very significant gas. I had better luck increasing Cisipride to resolve the problem. ECID, but it is good to know laculose can cause major gas.

Glad you finally got poop. Keep vigilant until you have a good maintenance routine.

Thanks Carol. I did give him cisapride (like usual) and lactulose (3 ml as prescribed) this morning. I believe it is bothering him to some degree although he has eaten some today. I think I will try a cisapride 2x a day and 1.5 ml lactulose 2x a day and see if that produces what we want it to produce.
