Wow, I am so surprised that we got a successful first test relatively easily! It only took two pokes and I was a little clumsy holding the test strip to the blood sample, but we got it :) I feel so much better about doing it now. Victor's level was 414, which I assume is fine to give him his full 2 units of insulin this morning, right?

Congratulations on a successful first test! I can't comment on the insulin, but the test is great news. It gets easier as time goes on, sometimes we still have more difficulty than others. But, keep going, you are doing great. Don't forget the treat, one for each of you.

Tagging @JanetNJ and @Kris & Teasel so maybe they can give me an answer about the insulin dose, hopefully in the next hour if possible which is when we usually give Victor his shot.

Oh and I will get to work on setting up Victor's spreadsheet.

give the usual dose. Any chance you can get a reading 5 hours after the shot?

Thank you for responding :) I can certainly try to do another test 5 hours afterward, but I had my mom holding him when we tested this morning, and she has a doctor appointment later today and might not be back at the necessary time, so I would have to try doing it solo and I'm not sure how well I would do. But I can try if you think I should.

Any test between 4-6 hours would be valuable data

Maybe a test right before mom leaves depending on when that is or immediately when she gets back. You can also try to test when Victor is sleeping. Have everything ready, go to where he is, push strip in right before your ready to poke. Sometimes you have their test before the realize you did it. (I have the sound off on my meter so the beep doesn't scare).

Its good to practice on your own too though. Even if you aren't successful just keep trying. That way you don't have to worry about someone always being around to help when you need/want to get a test in. I literally take my boy and sit on the floor, then sit him basically on his butt (lol) back towards my belly in between my legs. That way my legs can help hold him in place. I will say my guy is so easy to test though which I know isn't always the case for everyone, but just keep practicing.

Yeah, I know it would be a good thing to practice on my own, and your way of doing it sounds promising. I'll have to give it a try.

Congratulations! I have only had two successful tests myself (One just this morning, let's keep the streak going!) Both of the numbers I've gotten have been in the 400s. Even when I don't get a result, I'm still trying. Just one poke, then breakfast or dinner. Hopefully he'll learn and stop squirming so much.

Tomorrow I'm going to get some nice treats for him, so I can "train" him with a little better and try to do a curve one day.

If he is wants you leave you can scoop the drop in the back of a fingernail let him go and test from there.
