6 weeks ago when Jade was diagnosed, the Vet said to give her 1 unit (lantus), twice a day and come back in
a month. No need for BG testing. I was the one that insisted on the BG testing and ordered the AlphaTrak
(ONLY after finding this site). Had I not found this site and had I followed my Vets advice, would Jade be alive today? (I think no) but wondering....

Is hard to say maybe he wouldn't go hypo so everything would have gone more o less ok, or maybe you would have recognized some symphtoms of hypo on time and helped and again everything would have gone more o less but I think his life is important enough not to risk it thinking you will get lucky and nothing is going to go wrong.

Jade is better off being tested by you. We hear "don't test at home" all the time, it's nothing new. :blackeye:
I'm sure your vet wouldn't do that with his children.

A lot of "maybes" answers my question....I didn't even know what HYPO was until the site, let alone what to look for.

That's exactly right. And testing was never NOT an option for her and I once I found the FDMB.

The worst excuse I've heard from a vet is that the pain from testing will "break the bond of trust". For our first sugar cat I would thump the table and he would jump up, he had no reason to distrust me. This was also the cat who loved riding in the car and showing off at the vet so trust was never an issue.
Feline diabetes is not a priority in a vet's education.

That's a shame. It should be, there wouldn't be over 18,000 members here if it wasn't a legit issue. I was terrified of exactly that (loosing her trust) and now she also knows when it's time and lets me do what we need to do. She doesn't like it, but she knows I need to to keep her healthy. The car rides will NEVER not be a horrible production tho!! We both need sedation for that!!

I used to be a courier so I'm the guy you see gripping the wheel and banging my head....Oh what now? No road rage, just high blood pressure.
We had a dog that wouldn't sit in the front and when she did she tried to bite the wipers. That's the opposite of a cat who walks out the front door and leaps in the car. Noah has been out of the house maybe ten times in 15 years, wrapped in piddle pads and a towel. I drive, he pees on my wife.

LOL ( and a cringe at the same time) Jade somehow manages to bellow a low, horrible noise that truly sounds like she's saying "HEEEEEELLLLLPPPPP" to where I've had to roll the windows up in fear of some passer by thinking I have kidnapped an old man and calling 911. Now, it's a half a pill for her and an UBER!!

What does the (GA) stand for in your profile? It's also a prefix in the thread title..is it "General Audience"?

GA is for gone across. It means I've had a diabetic cat that has passed away. Someone once asked why there are so many people from Georgia here.
You won't know unless you ask right? This is Nigel, Noah's brother. We learned a lot from him. nigel003.JPG

Exactly too many maybes to risk the life of your kitty on them if you ask me, you didn't knew and neither did most of us when we started but vets should, and in my opinion they shouldn't prescribe a shot of insulin without testing, if it was for a human they wouldn't allow it .

Ha! I’ve posted that very thing on my Facebook page. Indeed, having a sense of humor is key, and
The darker the better here too!
