Do you still have your pack of ferals Janet? Mr. Nasty still suns himself on our deck almost every day. He doesn't want food, water or love. He just wants to be left alone.
I took a big risk getting this close to him. If he belongs to someone he is the most street-smart cat I've ever seen.

Oh, Dickson, he looks so much like Idjit! And he looks good for a feral, doesn't he? Don't you think if he was a feral, he would want the water and food, if not the love?

I think Mr. Nasty lives with our neighbors or he'd look a bit shabbier and want food. I've seen our squirrels come right up next to him for peanuts, don't know why he sees me as a threat.
O.C. (orange cat) has not been around in awhile, he is super nasty. They both paw at the door but if they get in someone will lose an eye.:blackeye:

Yeah that’s probably it. She needs to adjust to lower numbers. Overall her mid cycle numbers are much better though.

These red pmps are driving me crazy. I thought maybe it's a bounce from her not being used to the blues in the morning. Maybe I'm being impatient. So I lowered the dose from 5.25 to 5 yesterday and the pmps came down a little to the 350's.... But that strategy didn't work today... Back in the 400's. Very frustrating. :/. Her numbers are decent in the day.

@Kris & Teasel sorry I've been tagging you a lot lately. What do you think? Keep at 5 a few more days and see if the bouncing settles or go up to 5.25.

Maybe keep the 5 u AM and PM for another day or two. That should be long enough to see if it truly is helping. You had some nice greens on the 5.25 u dose but she's definitely more dramatic now. Those steep dives certainly contribute to high PSs. One good thing is that she's not staying high and flat.

Yeah definitely better numbers then before the dental. I was hoping her dose would be further down. Before the dental she was up to 6.25 and it was only getting her in mid to high blues, so at least we are seeing better mid cycle numbers. Ok I'll stay with 5 through tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks

So she was crazy high 500 this morning. Didn't eat much. She threw up some time between +4 and +5 ... And generally looks like she feels yucky. At +5 she was down to 250 and looks a little more herself, purred when I pet her and ate a little bit. I ordered a ketone blood meter which will be here tomorrow, just in case. She's too hard to catch in a box so I figured the blood meter would be easier.

I am frustrated but what can you do. Just have to take it as it comes. Her preshot last night was good and pretty average this morning. She's a little high today but she may have had a partial fur shot as she took off during her shot this morning. PITA. LOL. Pinks and yellows I can deal with. The black and red numbers I don't like.

Well her numbers might be sky high, but I was able to try out the new ketone meter and it came up low which means no ketones detected.

It's really hot here today, and my stubborn partner hates air conditioning. It was 87 in the house and poor CC started panting. :( Laura finally felt bad and we put the air on. (She doesn't care that I'm hot of course... But the cat was hot, soooo). I wet cc down with a wet paper towel and she parked herself in front of an air vent. Now I can use cc as an excuse to put the air in when it's 85 in the house. Ha! Thanks, cat!

I have an appointment for a consultation with the vet on Thursday. She wants to ask me about my dosing after looking at my spreadsheet as she "doesn't understand" some of the doses. I am a bit nervous about this meeting actually. I think either there's something wrong with cc, with my dosing, or that perhaps I just need to switch insulins. Whichever it is I have butterflies in my stomach and feel like I'm getting sent to the principals office. I'm feeling really frustrated and confused. :(

So over this diabetes thing. Seriously. Done. Need a good cry. I feel like I'm failing her.

Oh my goodness Janet, there is absolutely no question of you failing CC. And as for your consultation, I am sorry you feel unsure about it. You seem very knowledgeable, capable, experienced and sure to me. Perhaps remember that the vet, while having the medical background and education (in whatever amount regarding FD), you are the one with 24/7, 365 hands on experience. Hopefully, together, you will find the answers you need. You don't answer to anybody, but you can work with anyone. To he** with the principle's office thing!
Enjoy the AC, we have a flipping fan and it's very hot here too. If it wasn't so far, I would be heading your way. You have cute kitties and a cute kid! And...I like you.

You haven't failed her, Janet - just hit a bump in the FD road. You know CC better than your vet ever will. It might be worth trying another insulin, though. ProZinc is most like Vetsulin in its action but is very expensive once you get into higher doses. Maybe consider Lantus? Ordering from that Canadian pharmacy makes it affordable and it's U100 so it goes a lot further.

I'm so sorry you are feeling this way. If it makes you feel better, and was just sweating waiting to hear from my vet because we needed to have a "conversation" and I felt the same way about it being like called into the principal's office! I haven't been doing this very long, but I have been on this site reading a TON, and you are a wonderful diabetic cat caretaker and advice giver. Hang in there!!

I am feeling lost. She’s most like herself early in the morning before her shot. After her high dose she lays around all day looking miserable. I feel the high dose is doing more harm than good. I kind of want to start over at like 2.5 for a couple days and see what happens. I texted my vet this morning to see what she thinks about that idea. I think she's going to think in annoying and crazy texting her this early (6:30am) but I feel like this is making me a little crazy. Ugh. I clearly don't know what I'm doing on my own so I'm reaching out for help. I need help.

You can try that for a few cycles and test for ketones just in case. Has she had a full blood panel/checkup recently aside from the dental? That might be a place to start. It's possible that a change of insulin might be worth trying. Don't give up! I know how hard it is to cope with a kitty who's unpredictable. Unfortunately for you it seems that CC has put herself in this category this go around. :bighug:

Ok. I did 3 units almost three hours later than usual. I just couldn’t decide what to do. I figure if she’s really high later I can always move the shot time up an hour. She had full blood panels a month ago. She’s eating fine. When I tested her at 5:15 she was 389. At 8:15 she was 365 so it didn’t go up. I shots 3 at 8:15

I read your SS note about her feeling better today on the lower dose. Maybe there's something about Vetsulin at high doses that doesn't agree with her. It's more dramatic in its action. I wonder if that dramatic action at a high dose feels different than at a low dose?

Feeling much calmer compared to this morning and last night when I was having my little anxiety meltdown. Helped that my family and I went to the movies. It was a distraction from my urge to test and keep checking my phone. Still have a bit of the Butterfiies about the consultation tomorrow, not looking forward to it, but I'm glad I have a dosing strategy for the next week or so. Her numbers were high today but she was more herself. I did the evening shot 1.5 hours early since I was 3 hours late this morning and she was just over 300 so I knew it was safe to shoot. I don't think I'm going to sleep well tonight. Benadryl.

Please rest well Janet, you are going to get this figured out. And you need to take good care of you too, after all. What movie? I watched the 2012 Les Miserables last night, my gawd I love that music!!!! It's been swirling around in my head all day. The vocals not as great as the London original theater cast but I still really enjoyed it. It was a great relaxer.

Honey, it's been so long since I had a six year old I don't remember if there were even movie theaters back then! I think we still had animal skins on the floor of our cave and they played with bones and stones. LOL

ok... so she and I both agreed that we want to reduce her dose a bit and see what happens.... but we differed in a couple areas. First I said I wanted to switch to prozinc. Now she said that her go to is lantus and prozinc but because CC did so good on Vetsulin she wanted to persue it a little longer. I told her I felt like it was futle but we compromised. I wanted to lower her to 3 units for 5 days and see what happens... if the dose is too high... She wants me to do 3 for 7 days... she also wanted me to only test twice a day. I said no, absolutely not doing that, but I'd be willling to do preshots and one mid cycle shot. She thought maybe CC was stressed from the testing. I assured her she's not. To prove it I showed the video of me testing her and she couldn't believe it... esp when CC purred and happily rubbed her face on the meter. Vet said, "no way... you must have put catnip on the meter". hahaha so she had to conceded that CC truely isn't bothered by the testing. ANYWAY, so our compromise... gunna do 3 u for 7 days... if it's not enough (which it won't be) raise it to no more then 4 for another 7 days. If that still isn't working she will let me do prozinc. So I'm playing by her rules for a few weeks and seeing what happens. So far it's only getting her to mid 200's. One good thing though is I'm starting her on Gabapentin for her arthritis in addition to the adequan. Lately her front legs have gotten very ouchy, so i'm hoping this helps... we'll see.

Thank you for the response, I was wondering and hopeful. I guess the compromise is as good as you are going to get, for now. And it's both amusing and a little sad that you had to prove that testing wasn't stressing CC out. I sure hope the Gaba works for CC, the ache of arthritis is not pleasant, and she can't gripe as loudly as we can. Hugs to the beautiful fur baby.

she's been so hesitant to walk because of the leg... but I'm trying to push her a little more now that she has the Gaba.... so she loves young again... so I put a little in a bowl and put it down and let her get one... then pick it up and put it in the other room and she walked in to get it. Let her get a bite, and put the bowl back in the other room. Repeat. I had her pace back and forth like 10 times. hahaha I'll try it again later too. Getting her moving and grooving. lol

yes, they tell arthritis patients that movement is important, but so many don't because it hurts. What a good idea to entice her to do a little walking. Very intuitive, plus you got a little exercise too, not that you need it. You have a six year old, other fur kids, a house to manage and a million other wonderful things you do.

Sure it counts, everything counts I say. Now, when does school start there again, are you getting ready, excited? I used to tear my hair out but then we home schooled and the pressure was off for the most part, the school shopping was over. That was at first until I had to figure out different ways to present material, elicit interest, enforce getting the work done, and horror beyond all horrors, having to relearn algebra  I guess it worked out ok, but I think what they really learned was how to learn, how to find out what you need to know, and I learned right along with them.
