    Good morning!
AMPS 221 shooting an increase back to 1.25u

Boomer ate the usual overnight, leaving his +6.

Allen ate well overnight; there was no deposit in his lb.

Not sure what's going on today.....it's supposed to be cloudy, windy, and chilly. :p

Today's wildlife photo is of a male Downy Woodpecker!

Anyone here use lactulose? We have been buying it from our vet for about $23.00 for 120 ml (about 40 days use for Allen). Found out just recently that our local pharmacies sell it and we purchased it from the Metro (a grocery store chain in Canada) pharmacy and they charged us about $4.50 for 250 ml. Just putting this out there in case we weren't the only ones that didn't know it was readily available!

Good luck with the new dose. I'm glad both kitties are eating well. Great picture.

    Work that juice, Deputy Boomer!
Have a good weekend, Judy. I hope you get out to do some photography. It is cold and damp with showers here this morning after several days of very warm, humid, and rainy weather. The leaves are falling fast. We're supposed to lead a paddle on Monday and the forecast is for a "wintry mix". We probably will have to postpone or cancel.

I hope Boomer rocks the increase!

It is crazy the markup that the vet offices do on the meds. Anytime, I am RX something for one of my animals I ask the vet if it is a human drug also. If yes, I ask for an RX and go to Costco or Walmart. Their prices can't be beat. For instance, when Forrest was first put on methimazole, the vet office charged me $18 for the first 3 weeks worth. I checked with Costco and their price was about $18 for 3 MONTHS worth. BIG difference. I also get Ricky's anti seizure at Costco for a fraction of what the vet practice wanted. They make a crazy amount of month of drug markups and vaccines.

Yeah, well now I know to check and I'm checking for the rest of the meds and the lactated wringers as well. I was truly disgusted! And...to make matters worse....there was a time when I ran out of lactulose and they told me they had to order it....so in other words they didn't care enough about Allen to tell me that it was available at our local pharmacies.

I have been on a kick to both stock up and save $$. I recently ran out and the vet office messed up the order. It did cause a problem for Rose, so I can't let that happen again. @Bronx's dad told me about Allivet for lactulose. They have excellent prices and easy "point and click" service to get the Rx from the vet. I also got ABs from them at nearly half off. I am using dixieems for LRS. They are difficult to deal with, but the have good prices (even with shipping).

I have had good luck with goodrx for the human drugs and of course the lantus coupon was a dig bonus.

I get Doc's Lactulose from vet for $14.50 for big bottle - guess I should check around. I don't give it often as he doesn't need the constipation part, just the CRF ammonia cleaning side effect. I give diarrhea med at the same time or we have really bad poop.

    Beautiful Downy! As usual!

I rarely ever buy from the vet. I've even ordered out of the country for really great prices!
Have you ever listened to Dr. Karen Becker. She explains that the vaccine booster shots aren't necessary & can actually cause more harm than good. I think it's amazing to hear a Vet say these things.
I feel most of the Vets are about the "Money" More meds & more tests = more money!

I always look forward to your beautiful Photos! Thank You :)

    Have a wonderful day! :bighug:

I found human places that are cheaper but I had to buy a case, and then they wanted me to set up an account (one wanted my bank info). But this place is very fast and over wraps everything. I'd suggest buying a winter's supply so you don't have to worry that a parcel will come on that one ffffreezing day when you are out.

They also sell IV admin kits: https://www.petsdrugmart.ca/Product/IV-20DR-Set-J400-Jorvet-1870358/3278

and Terumo needles (although, not the much preferred ultra thin walled ones - those I bought from the US). I may have a few left. I'll check and DM you if I find them.

My vet charged $39 for a "kit" consisting of a white plastic bag containing 1 bag fluids, 1 IV admin kit, 10 crap needles. They would not sell me just the one bag of fluids that I needed.

I buy single bags of fluids all the time from my vet....they are about $10 each and then 10 of the lancets are about $10. I forget how much the line is. I will take a look at Pets Drug Mart...thanks!

It was $12 / bag of fluid from the vet that got me to go shopping around. I'm now paying $7.20 (shipping incl) from Dixie EMS. I get lines from Med Vet at $1.25 each. Needles are from Thriving Pets and were $8.95 / box of 100, but it looks like they are now $14.95 (boo!). I might have to find a new source for those. Thriving pets has been great as they didn't require an Rx (as some others do). It was just easier to order from them when getting additional supplies such as p-binder. Darn!

None of my animals get booster vaccines anymore. They are so unnecessary. I do titers instead for distemper and my dog Lucy still has immunities from her original booster. I still have to give the Rabies because it's the law in my state and also, my cats are outside and we have all kinds of wild life that come onto the property.

My cats don't get vaccinations either, it's not recommended for diabetics or ckd cats. Legally, they are supposed to have them. But they don't go outside.

It was very warm and humid here earlier this week as well, today it's cool and cloudy. Tomorrow the sun is supposed to be out although it will be cool. I have two photo sessions tomorrow; one in the morning and one later in the afternoon. Apparently we may get snow Wednesday morning :p
