I noticed a comment about air in the syringes on Furball's ss. I have been doing a lot of research because I was always getting air bubbles using the ReliOn syringes.
Here's what I've been doing lately, and it has really reduced the air bubbles. Not sure if it will help or if you already figured out a solution, but wanted to share just in case.

    1. Slide the plunger up and down the barrel a few times to take advantage of the lubricant on the inside of the barrel.
    2. Push the plunger up to the top as much as I can before inserting into the pen.
    3. Draw up insulin with a bit extra to make up for possible air bubble.
    4. Pull back on the syringe pretty far down so that all the air accumulates at the top and all the insulin consolidates at the bottom.
    5. Slowly push the barrel back up and watch as the air bubble gets squeezed out of then needle.

I spend a lot less time getting the shot ready by following all of these steps. Hope this helps.
Hugs and vines for you and Furball. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hey Furball, time to come back down, buddy!

Thanks. I've done that and I still get air bubbles. I'm using SureComfort syringes right now. I wonder if they've changed because it hasn't been this bad until recently.

Ugh, bounces, don't get me started, haha. I'm glad to hear FB has been happy and purry, even if her numbers haven't been fantastic! I hope she can get out of the pinks at least for you!

    Hope you find a solution.
I don't know if SureComfort has this problem, but I find that ReliOn syringes aren't always evenly straight all the way across. I could only tell when I looked at them under the low powered microscope. Just wanted to mention that in case you were considering trying other syringes. They do seem to do well with the bubbles, though, as long as I follow those steps. Good luck with the air bubbles.

Hope Furball comes down for you. :bighug:

Thanks. I used to use the Relion syringes until Wal-Mart treated me like a drug user. It wasn't worth the hassle.

Carla, I will tell you without a doubt that it is the SureComfort syringes. I acquired A box of these and they are terrible when it comes to air bubbles. I know exactly what you are talking about it’s not a case of flick the barrel air bubbles travel up 10 square air bubbles out. That doesn’t ever work, rarely works for me. There will still be a bubble or two at the top. I should get rid of all of these but I haven’t and when I run out of Walgreens syringes I reach for one of these and it’s a nightmare, right? How about Walgreens? Have you approached them? They have the half unit mark syringe, Walgreen brand.
I will say, I got original insulin Rx filled at Walgreens and I get other scripts filled there- they know me which is why I believe I don’t have any trouble getting syringe there. I know this “drug addict” crap is a real bad situation for us non-drug addicts o_O.
I know you can get the half unit mark BD’s through ADW online. Have you gone that route?

I haven't thought about trying a different syringe until now. I only recently started having this problem with the SureComfort syringes. I've been using them for a long time. I think they may have changed manufacturers. I just stocked up on the SureComfort syringes in September. I ordered 500. I think it's been too long for ADW to do anything about it.

I came home and looked at my syringes and they are CarePoint. I was getting myself confused. I used the SureComfort after the Relion and then switched to the CarePoint.

I had a pharmacist from CVS do that to me.:mad::mad: She also told me I had to have a prescription for the syringes :banghead: (Texas does not require a prescription for syringes). I even pulled it up on my phone and tried to show her and she said "she should know the laws because she had a degree"

Yes, I am a druggy, looking for insulin syringes with 1/2U marks so I can be exact with my drug of choice.:p

In am sorry you are having issues again with air bubbles. What I have found is if I pump the plungers several times and leave it for a bit while I finish getting his food ready I don't have as much of a problem. Like the lube allows the insulin to not "stick" as bad (if that makes any sense).

Thanks for the tip with the sryinges. With my current work schedule, I don't have time to wait before I draw insulin when I get home from work. I hate working four 10 hour days and trying to take care of a diabetic cat.

WV doesn't require a prescription either. The pharmacist intervened when I told them to call my vet and had the lady who was arguing with me give me the syringes. They lost me as a customer that day. I didn't get my insulin from Wal-Mart and that may be what she was trying to get accomplished.

I had already been to a different CVS, a Walgreens, 2 different Wal-Mart's and a Krogers (grocery store). None of them had any issues with "helping" me, including pulling the syringes out and looking at them with me. The last place I stopped was the CVS closest to the house and where we get all our human Rx's, needless to say I pulled all our Rx's and changed to the neighborhood Wal-Mart and called the corporate CVS and complained. She was just s B*.
