cc just surprised me with a blue 128 at +3. Whoohoo. I gave her a bit of her reg food since it's so early in the cycle and will test in an hour.

She went for a blood test for IAA yesterday so I’ll get those results. If it’s negative I’ll have them do the acro test. They only charged $69 for the IAA test but said the acro test was like $290. Yikes.

Well anyway, crossing fingers for a blue future.

An hour later (and after a can of Tiki cat) she was still 128. :) between the lower numbers (she hasn't seen numbers like this since Sept) and having her adequan shot a few hours ago, she's feeling good and purring loud with her tail in the air. :)

Not bad, 200 at +5.5. Not bad considering it was almost 500 this morning. My partner is home today so could test.

lol right? Can't she be exciting this weekend when I'm home? I thought it was interesting that her numbers didn't go up even after eating a can of food. I told her do 7 instead of 9.5 and I'll be home in 2 hours to check her. hope I did the right thing and I'm not up all night.

I have no experience at all with high doses but a 25% reduction seems like a reasonable choice. Good luck! I hope you get some sleep tonight :nailbiting:

If i didn’t have work tomorrow I would have told her to shoot 8, but since it held low even after 45 min after eating I was nervous it might be too much. Didn't want to be up all night. I'll get a+4 and see where she is. I just got home an hour and a half after the shot it did go up but the insulin hasn't really kicked in yet.

Ok at +3 she's at 155. So exciting! So looks like 7 was a good call. More may have been too much. I'll try to stay up another hour. Not sure if I'll make it. Gave her some low carb tikicat to slow down the drop.

Sorry no one was around earlier when you were tagging. FWIW, I think you made a good call on the reduction for tonight since she's in unusual territory. And great job steering with the LC food.

she did! There was a bit of steering and she may have gone lower but I was EXHAUSTED... so I just left out a little food. so if I see that number again I may do 6.75 or 6.5 but it was good! Such a relief to see healing numbers. of course again no surprise she zoomed back up this morning. I have off on Thursday-Sunday this week (whoo hoo!) so that will be great to see if she can get down again!

Just got an 81 @+4. I thought my sample must have been too small so I retested and it was 88. Was 400 four hours ago so that’s some big drop. Now gotta get that preshots down.

Kind of ironic that she busts through the insulin resistance just as you have her tested. So like a cat, isn't it? ;):cat:

Hmmm...i would think so since you had the test done just before the good numbers started showing up, but I really don't know much about those.

While Lou was diagnosed with IAA, I don't feel like any type of expert because Lou's case was weird overall. However, I do believe it would still show positive because the auto antibodies are still in his system. We had him tested for both acro and IAA (I cannot believe what they're charging you for them!) after he had finally started showing some greens. In his case, the vet suggested the acro testing and I requested the IAA test (thankfully!). He was positive at 84%, which would be considered high/extreme insulin resistance. Oddly enough, he never went above 4 units, so that's just weird compared to other IAA-only kitties I've seen. It's still good to know why I randomly see weird numbers as those antibodies die off.

Just catching up. Don't know how I missed this post with all those exciting blues and GREENS! If I were a betting woman, I'd say the IAA test may come back positive because this is exactly what Menace did to me. Surprise great numbers and then back up. The good news is the number of surprise better readings increased with time. Got my fingers crossed for you and C.C. !:D

I think they only do the IAA on Wednesday so depending on when they get the sample, it can take up to about 2 weeks if memory serves.

First great morning preshots in a long time. !! 258. Of course the problem now is no one is going to be home during the day so what the heck do we give her. Lol. Similar preshot in the evening last week and 7 seemed to be good .... I’ll stall 20 min and see if it’s going up before making a final decision.

Went with 9 since she was going up. I’ll leave out extra food just in case. I just caught her in some contraband. :/ sneaky thing pretends she can’t walk well but managed to get her fat butt on the table to steal some kibble (I closed it now). It’s Epigen 90 so still under 10 carb but still a no no for her.

So the vet texted me.... IAA test was negative. Next step we can test for acro.

She said she was just at a conference where they said more cats are testing positive for acro without physical signs. (No kidding.... I told her that three weeks ago... Lol) I'm glad to hear she's going to conferences about it though! Tells me she's trying to keep up to date.

Hey that's awesome that she's going to a conference! Well I'm glad IAA was negative, but it doesn't help explain why CC has needed so much insulin...could just be a high dose kitty I suppose. The acro test might tell us more. Are you planning on getting it?

My vet went to a conference after Colin’s diagnosis and proceeded to tell me all about the things I had already learned here, I just smiled and nodded since he seemed excited about it..... If you do get the acro test, ask them about that price they quoted, it seems high from what others have mentioned recently. I can’t remember what I paid for Colin, it was under $200 but that was over 2 years ago. HERES that info again in case you need it.

Thanks. My vet is particularly expensive so it is probably right. They do give me a 10% "courtesy discount" when I go as a very frequent customer. Lol sad, right? One Christmas they sent me a big box of good chocolates! Haha that's how you know you go there way too much.

Not wishing high dose stuff on anyone but I was really hoping it was just IAA because it does eventually break on it's own. I can't believe what your vet wants to charge for the Acro test. My cost for both Acro and IAA was just under $200.00 and that's with shipping from Canada in Canadian $. Mind you that was 3 years ago but still.....
At least your vet is taking an interest. :)

I'm rather surprised about the negative IAA results, although I am happy for you and CC. It's frightening how much they're charging you for the tests. If you look at the MSU website, the tests themselves do not actually cost that much to run (I remember the IAA test was $18). My vet charged me $155 for both the Acro and the IAA test. I just came in for the draw, so that price included the two tests, the blood draw, and shipping.

Hi Janet - I'm not on the forum as much these days. CC is looking good. What a great pic!

But those high numbers are fairly indicative of Acro. The test was less than $200 for Leo (in 2016), and then I took him for SRT in Sept 2016. I have never regretted that.

Hardly any vets know about Acro. But there is the study (that I can find) which showed that 20% or so of all diabetic cats have some level of Acro. Anyhow, I hope you are doing fine, and it is good to see you are trying to get CC regulated. It is so hard when their levels just keep going up.
