Which ones do you like best and why?

I’ve been using BD syringes and haven’t been too happy with them - sticky sticky plungers and needles that are already bent at an angle when I first open it up.

    Please tell what you use.

Are you priming your syringes first? There's a lubricant inside the syringes so if you pull the plunger in and out a few times, it usually stops the stickiness problem.

As for the bent needles, it's really important to pull the caps off totally straight. The needles are made with such thin metal that it doesn't take hardly anything to bend them.

All syringes seem to have good points and bad points. It's finding one brand that you can deal with that's the important part. Sure would be nice if there was some kind of quality control and regulation on how syringes are made!

I will never ever look at another syringe. I've used the 1/2" needle U100's on U40 cats for years, easy to read and top quality.
They can be very hard to find in Canadian stores.
Newbies reading this, do NOT use a different 'U' syringe than instructed by your vet.

@Chris & China thanks to you also :bighug:

Yes, I am priming the syringes. It helps some - but they are still sticky.

I do pull the cap off straight, yes. Agree there should be quality control. :)

The ones I like best are Thinpro but as far as I can find they don’t make them with half unit markings.

Does anyone know of a U100 syringe with a 1/2" needle and half-unit markings? BD doesn't seem to have this and I'd like try switching from 5/16".

    Thanks! - Tom

These Monoject syringes are the only ones I know of, but they're 29 gauge instead of 31 so the needle is going to be "thicker"

Why do you want 1/2" needles?

I wanted to see if they would give me more confidence that a shot has been successfully administered. And I've seen them mentioned in a couple places. Ah, here's one. 2010 AAHA Diabetes Management Guidelines, which does, however, cover both cats and dogs:

Do not use “short” needles. A standard 29-g, half-inch length needle is recommended.

Not a big deal. I'm doing OK with the 5/16" needles, just thought the longer one might be worth a try.

I prefer the longer needles. Tried the short ones and hated it.

Oh, belated thanks, Chris, for the pointer to the Monojects. I grazed through what was at ADW earlier, but missed these.

I prefer the 1/2" but only when I did a tent/pinch. A scruff shot was out of the question.

Could one of you do me a favor and look up the NDC number on the box? I could not find it anywhere online and my pharmacy, where I have an Rx for syringes with refills, can't try to order them without this. (When practical, I like to still try to shop in stores.) Thanks!

Try SY 8881600145 (not sure if you need the SY part)

That seems to be the manufacturer's part number. I don't know why I can't find an NDC number, as I can for the BD syringes. No big deal. I see our vet next week and can ask her to write me a fresh script I can use with ADW. Thanks for looking!

I'm not sure there is a NDC number for syringes....NDC is National Drug Codes and I think they are only used on drugs

It's weird. Even vendor sites that list NDC numbers for other brands of syringe don't have them for the Monojects. Ah well, such a minor point that I've sorry I even brought it up. Easy enough to buy through ADW.
