Bailey is in a mood today, moreso than usual. I'm hoping all that meowing, swiping and biting has tired her out enough so that I can do laundry in the big, bad, freight train sounding washing machine. The pile is getting really big :(

She is grooming now after getting her +2.5 food so hopefully this means she's ok, and she was just a bit out of sorts this morning. I hope it doesn't keep escalating, though, because it's getting to be a real challenge. Right now, it takes both my daughter and me working together to give her her shots.

I want my sweet quiet Bailey back :(

Also, I am currently testing 4 meters because I clearly have a testing problem: ReliOn Prime (my usual), One Drop(the newest), Pettest Advocate, and the Alphatrak ($$$$$:banghead::banghead::banghead:). Results are in the third tab on Bailey's spreadsheet, along with a note about the OneDrop. I will try to use all 4 meters when I suspect I am hitting Bailey's nadir, or possibly at shot time if the Prime number seems crazy low, assuming I can get a drop of blood big enough in between her biting attempts.

My eventual plan is to use the OneDrop on a daily basis, with the Pettest Advocate as my backup. Does that sound like a good plan?

**For anyone considering the OneDrop with their unlimited strips plan, it does require that you use their app and sync it to the meter which allows them to see how many strips you are actually using. I haven't been able to do that yet, but just wanted to give a heads up.

Sorry for the novel-length post. By the time I finished writing this, Bailey fell asleep. It's laundry time.:woot::woot::woot:

Holding on ok. The civvies have been very attentive lately cuddling and purring. It is interesting to see the shift in the herd now that the patriarch is gone.

It is really frustrating when they fight us on shots or tests or medicines or all of the above. We went through the fight when first putting the drops in Bubba's ears. After I made up my mind that he was getting them come hell or high water, he seemed to settle down about it.

I use the Relion Prime meter and don't have any issues with it. Were you having some? I have my mom's Freestyle Light meter as a back up but haven't had to use it. I did a comparison a few years ago and it does test higher than the Relion Prime.

I'm sorry to hear Bailey is turning into such a challenge :( Have you ever googled 'thundershirts for cats'? Just something to think about. I put one on Luci the first time she flew in a plane - turned out she didn't need it - she was calmer than I was - I could have used one:p but she flew quietly and like a veteran! Just an idea...or some of those 'calming' remedies on the same search result page...
That's exactly what I do :) Can't really afford to use the Pet Meter every time...so when she goes low, we bring out the PM (hence the double entries on our SS)...I find it informative to get a better picture when she's going really low...
I read that too...but it's very loosely sync'd. They wanted ME to enter the BG readings! Sheesh...I've entered it twice since I've been using the One Drop...if they want more readings than that they'll have to contact me...I really just can't remember to enter that data anywhere else...it's not a big deal...and I read that too...but have forgotten to do it more often than not...and I'm ordering 300 strips at a time - usually about once a month - as soon as I open a box (of 300) I place another order since I think they're shipping is a bit slow - although the last box arrived quickly - I don't want to be caught worrying about strips. And yes, I have a couple of back-up meters should the need ever arise.

Good luck with the laundry! Did you ever think about putting Miss Bailey in her crate and taking her out for a drive while the washer is rocking and rolling? Probably sounds nuts, huh? I just figure if I can't remove the problem (the washer isn't going anywhere!) - maybe remove the problem child?

Sorry for Bailey's mood. Hope you figure out the meter issue. I don't use any of those. Right now I use the nova max and I don't care for it. It's to slow zipping the drop. Since Olive will not keep her head still (just wants scritches) we waste quite a bit. I will go back to the micro when my strips are gone.

Hi, Bailey. Um, I'm a shy kitty, too. I'm even 'fraidy of my dad. Just wanted you to know you're not alone. And if you purr at your momma instead of biting her, she can comfort you better, and then you'll be even less alone. I like to be comforted, don't you?

Okay, I think I have been away from the board for too long - what is this unlimited strips plan all about?

I heard about if from @Sue and Luci .
It's $50/month, but you have to pay 3 months in advance. You use their app to reorder strips, and as long as they see that you are actually testing that often, you can keep reordering strips, 300 at a time. I just started so I can't speak long term. I also signed up ahead of schedule because I was able to get a 50% off coupon so my first three months was $75, meter included.
If you are interested, I can check my email to see if they have sent any 50% off coupons that I can share with you.

I had been using the Prime because it was the cheapest option, but with the amount of testing I was doing, I realized I was spending more than $50 a month on strips, and I was stressing how many I was going through. I feel like this will give me the freedom to test as often I feel is necessary. The OneDrop results seem to run very similar to the Prime.

Actually, I rescind that offer. I don't want Mandarin to get any ideas about flunking his OTJ trial :)

    Dear Felix,
I know how you feel Felix. I'm 'fraidy of most male humans. My mama bean thinks that something happened during my two months on the street before i was adopted because the tip of my tail was broken. It healed a little bent, but it still works ok. I try to be brave around my dad though. Maybe you can be too. :)
I did purr at my mama today, about 5 hours after my AM shot. May have been because I was just so tired from fighting and biting. I think I may have a had a bit of tummy trouble because I was really really hungry this morning. My mama plans to give me my last PM snack a bit later to see if it helps. I hope so. I don't like fighting with my mama. I know she loves me.
I do feel better. Felix, you're the best!
    Purrs,
    Bailey

No, I actually have been happy with the Prime so far. It boiled down completely to expense. I finally looked at how much money I was actually spending on strips, and I realized I was spending more than $50 a month, sometimes significantly more. Since I was able to get the One Drop for half price, I figured I'd give it a try. I've got two more months before I get charged for the next round of strips so we'll see how things go. I like the fact that it seems to run very similar to the Prime, maybe just a few points higher.

The OneDrop is giving me the opposite problem. Sometimes it beeps to say it's done, but the visual window isn't full. I'm hoping with time I will learn to use it better, and that won't be a problem.
Is that the ReliOn Micro? I thought the strips for the micro were discontinued. Is there another source? I never used it, just curious.

I had never heard of that! How do you know Luci didn't need it? Did she travel well without it on future trips?
I did look into the Felliway spray, just haven't gotten around to purchasing it. Since my daughter has been here to give Bailey the insulin shots, it's been ok. Today was the first time she was so difficult during the blood test, which should not require two people with the number of times I test in a day. She was fine later in the day, back to her old self after she got her nap. I really hope it was an upset tummy. She was starving an hour before shot time, and I made her wait. I can try the +8 or +9 snack, but I think it raises her BG which seems counterproductive.

Me too. Of course, the opposite is also true. When both the human and the pet meter read low, then I am frantic. :nailbiting:

I got a couple of loads done. Had to wait a few hours until she was nice and sleepy, then closed the door, then got on the phone to provide even more distraction. I hope that the new old dishwasher ends up being quieter than the new old washing machine. These are not problems I had anticipated.

BTW, your comment brought back memories. I used to do that with my colicky son almost 30 years ago. Can't do it with Bailey though. Her BG would skyrocket.

Ohmeowgosh, Bailey, I'm really sorry about your tail! I might not be as 'fraidy of my dad if he'd sit on the floor more--he walks around all tall and big plus he wears scary slippers! I'm glad your tummy is feeline better. My tummy feels better in the morning if I have a late night bedtime snack. Paws crossed that you get to have a snack at the regular time AND a snack later!
    Purrs,
    Felix
ETA: p.s. I have a Thundershirt. I'm 'fraidy of it. I think I kind of like Feliway, though.
