So cc surprised us this morning with a 198. We've been stalling and are now an hour passed shot time and she's 177!! Why she couldn't do this during Christmas break I don't know. I'm home for another 45 min. What would you give?

I see you reduced her dose. So hard to know how much to reduce. How are you feeling about her progress tight now?

If I was home I may have done more but I get nervous when she alone. She surprises us sometimes which makes it hard to predict. If the dose wasnt enough then I can shoot her early because she got it an hour late

Hey Janet! Sorry I think I was heading out the door when you posted. I think your choice was fine. Looks like it worked out fine as she was in a nice yellow at PMPS!

@Kris & Teasel and @Rachel and anyone else interested....

Tested her this morning. 83! Thought ok must have been a small sample or it was off because the insulinx strip is way expired.... So tested a bigger drop with an Alphatrak strip. 84!!! Wow! Where did this come from. Obviously have to stall. I'm home until about 7:30 which is two more hours.

Me either. She had good numbers yesterday. Tested her at +4 last night @192 which was good... Not a number that made me think she was going too low. Then this morning what a shock! Stick around.... Not sure what I should do later. She never seems to throw these curve balls when I'm home.

Ok at a 90 min stall she's 105. Skip or give just a tiny dose? I leave in 15 min

That’s a tough one...I’d be tempted to give a teeny dose like 0.25 or so maybe. She eats fine? Can you leave food out? Is your partner there to keep an eye out today?

She's on a high dose so a tiny dose could be a unit or 2.

Yes she eats great. I fed her and there's lots of food down. I stalled so long the others thought they weren't getting fed and gave up and went for a nap. Ha She was the only one there eating. Lol. No one is home today.

Sometimes ProZinc seems to have a bit of a "depot" like effect from extended duration so dropping the dose can help to reduce after a low PS.

WOW! What a shocker. It's too bad our kitties have such bad timing to throw those gorgeous but scary low BGs. With big gulpers, it's sometimes easier to think in terms of % reduction when they pull these tricks. While I know full well I would have skinnied up the dose as you did today if unable to monitor, if CC throws low numbers like that when you can monitor a bit more, I'd try a 25 or 50% reduction to see what she does so you'll know the next time you can't monitor how she reacts. You don't want to lose progress and CC is definitely looking much better these days.

When you get a low PS like that, stalling will rarely raise the number enough by itself. You have to use Kris' technique of feeding first and then monitoring the food spike until it's high enough to shoot something. Then maybe go with a BCS (usually about half of the regular dose) instead of a token dose. It's best to try it out on a weekend if CC would be kind enough to give you a green PS on a Saturday ;). Prozinc will sometimes give nice overlap as Kris said, but it's usually petered out around +14 and you'll start to see the rise at that point. Doesn't help if you need to leave though.

Have you set any specific BG at which you give C.C. a reduction in dose? Sometimes with the big gulpers, instead of waiting for them to get all the way down to 68 using L&L TR procotol and because their reactions can be a bit erratic (like you need to be told that:p:woot:) folks do reductions at a slightly higher BG. So if you normally reduce when C.C. she gets to 90 for instance, raise that up a bit to 100 or 110. Given that 84 this morning, and knowing you can monitor part of tomorrow, I'd probably take her back to 9.5u barring a lower than expected BG at PMPS.

Had a surprising 79 at +11! I hope she wasn't too low today. Maybe stick with 9? I thought 9.5 would be safe today with a preshot in the 300's.

Looks like C.C. may have bounced from that blue yesterday or a lower reading later in last night's cycle and has cleared the bounce quickly. I'd hold judgement until you see what she is doing at pre-shot. If she's heading up, then yes I'd probably go with 9u. If she's holding steady or lower, that's a different story and would depend on how much monitoring you can or want to do tonight.

I'd go for the 9u as long as you can monitor her tonight. She heading up and better to catch her now with a full dose than reduce excessively and then have her skyrocket. If you decide monitoring is not your thing tonight, (and we all have those nights ;)) I wouldn't reduce more than 25%, say to 7u roughly.

Next time she does that you can also try stalling for a bit. Or since she's long term, you could feed-and-stall if you needed to to get her up enough. That way you can avoid having to reduce the dose as much and keep her on track. Since Prozinc has a little play and CC is usually high at shot time, you most likely be able to keep your normal morning schedule. Of course now that I've said that she'll give you a green AMPS ;)

I'll keep that in mind. The problem with stalling at night makes it hard for me to test v because I'm not a night person and staying up past 10 is hard because I'm usually awake by 4. Plus the last two days have been super stressful. My partner and son were in a car accident yesterday (they are OK....) then I was called by my in laws to take father in law to the hospital...... Then they called again at 4:30 am this morning and my partner brought him to the hospital... A full day of professional development and curriculum writing.... I literally just feel asleep for a half hour at 7. Oh and I learned on Wed I am very anemic (knew that already from on of CC'S meters but it was confirmed) and learned ill probably need major surgery in the next few months and need to schedule a biopsy. Good times. BUT everyone is ok... Cc is doing well... And it's a 3 day weekend. :). Soooo my point is I reduced cuz I'm going to attempt to sleep.

Oh man! They really do have bad timing don't they?! ?. Seems C.C. is on some kind of mission right now. That is totally unexpected. I thought she'd likely bounce a bit. Get the big guns out and give her some high carb food to bump her up.

Been a stressful week but lots to be thankful for.

No one was hurt in the accident and the other guys insurance should cover it.

I have medical things going on but I feel ok, have good insurance, and lots of sick days saved up if I need to take a couple months off.

My partner had the flu last week and my son and I didn't get it. Knock on wood.

Father in law is ok... Just needs to follow through with an oral surgeon.

And cc will have her preshot averages for the week in the yellows this week for the first time since MAY!!!!!! SO EXCITING.

Wondering how low she went on the day cycle but she is obviously coming up now. The last time you dosed 8 on a 122 pre-shot she went a tad too far. So you could be brave  and dose 8 again or take it down another notch to 7.5u if you want to hopefully avoid a PJ party.

Gee, Janet, I don't have much experience with high doses. After that lime green and lower PMPS maybe 10 u? She might be a bit insulin sensitive after the low.

Lol ok I'll just take my best guess. :). I didn't have to steer much this afternoon. Just gave her a bit of low carb food and it came right up.

Did 9.5. An hour and a half after shot time, and after eating she was only 245 so didn't want to over do it. Ican shoot earlier tomorrow if she's high since I shot late tonight. Ty for your input. I'll have to set an alarm to check on her some time tonight.

I haven’t been on much lately, though I have been checking in, but somehow I missed your birthday Janet. Happy belated birthday! How is CC doing?

Interesting run of numbers last night after a significant drop in dose. It could be from post lime green sensitivity.

Wow! That was some low yesterday and seemingly out of nowhere. With these high dosers, it's hard to guess what to do and it's interesting she appears to have stayed relatively flat since PMPS last night. When making dose changes at these doses, I used to think in terms of % rather than pulling a number out of a hat and do dose changes of anywhere between 10 to 25% depending on how low numbers had gone and of course availability to monitor.
Surf nicely for your Momma today C.C.:D

Yes, I was thinking in % too when I threw out my suggestion last night. I'm not very confident advising about dose changes at this level though. o_O

Ok so I lowered about 21% last night. I set an alarm for 11:30 but wasn't feeling up for an all nighter (I have a cold) so I was hesitant to give more than 9.5. She's doing OK this morning.

I was hoping for the good preshot streak to continue tonight, but unfortunately back in the pinks. For a while there I considered anything under 400 to be good.... But now I wish for under 350. 353 isn't awful though.

My son is so cute. Anytime the preshot is under 300 he runs so excitedly to tell his other mom the number. Kid knows a lot about fd. Lol

So, some unexpected numbers tonight. Started with a really low am preshot, I reduced the dose 60%, nice pmps.... But now at 4 hours she's got a hypo situation. 44 on an alpha.... I double checked with two tests. Yikes. And this is why we test. Just have some high carb (20%) food and will test in 15. She's purring and happy and not showing any symptoms.
