The lady that I got Sassy from was feeding her dry cat food, not kitten food. At five months old, I know she should still be eating kitten food. Since I need to transition her anyway, I figure now is as good a time as any to get rid of the dry as well.

I know to do it gradually, but my question is, since she isn't diabetic, should I still feed the low carb pates? Or is any canned food ok?

Is that photo of your cat Sassy? Many years ago my first cat was named Sassy & that photo looks exactly like her. When I have time I'll find a photo of her & post it. (I have goose bumps! It looks like her so much)

I missed the post of your new addition. How wonderful.

As far as food, it doesn't hurt to stay low carb to try and prevent diabetes.

No, Joy. That was my sugar cat, Shiloh. She passed in July at 17.

Paula, thank you. This is Sassy.

Hi Rhonda. Lovely to see you.
Welcome to your new kitty Sassy. (She is gorgeous)
I would feed a low carb diet to any cat whether diabetic or not.

    Pretty girl,pretty name :joyful:

NO KIBBLE ! Low carb canned or Raw diet. Some people here use Food Fur Life You can get a sample for a couple of dollars. It's a powder with all the nutrients Kitty needs. You just add it to raw meat.

    Good Luck with Sassy! :)

3 cans of Fancy Feast a day for a six month old kitten. Too much?

It's really hard to figure out how much wet food a kitten needs per day, as they need enough calories to support their crazy energy level and activity, plus enough more to support their growth. We have recently taken in a 6 month kitten and an 8 month kitten. They are getting at least 2 cans of FF a day, with a lower-carb dry food always available as well. Some days they don't eat much of the dry food, other days they eat a lot of it as well as the FF wet food. I have been trying to increase the FF to keep the amount of dry food down, but even with four feedings a day, most of the time they don't eat more than 1/2 a can each at a meal, sometimes 3/4 can. Usually anything over 1/2 can sits there for a few hours before they go back and eat the rest. Seems their stomachs just aren't ready to eat more at once, and I just can't do more than 4 meals a day. So, they can free-feed the good quality dry food as needed right now, and as they become adults and size and weight stabilize, we will phase out the dry and keep them on the FF. Seems like the only way to be sure that the kittens are getting what they need to keep growing.
