I increased last evening and voila :D - Andy is full of surprises - took him down again this morning.

? Lately, I have been having a problem getting him to eat when he goes low - this is new to us - any ideas how to handle this other than force-feeding? It is scary and never was a problem before. I have all kinds of foods, a variety of choices, but last night he nibbled and then just looked at me and walked away.:arghh:

Oh Andy. It's possible he had plans to come down before you increased.

Is there any food he just loves? Would he eat that food with honey or gravy added?

Yes, maybe gravy because he likes to lick that up first. I gave 1/4 can FF at 99 and he ate some of that; I tried a few diff things at 42 but at 38 I put a little Karo on his gums and he got mad at me - did not know he had a temper! He wanted to sleep and I kept getting him up to test so he was unhappy!

    Thanks!:bighug:

I agree about his plans to come down before the last night increase as he had a flat yellow cycle yesterday AM. I would hold after a cycle like that to make sure a drop wasn't coming up.

Have you ever tried the Bonita Flakes? They are my go to now when I need to get Bubba to eat. I used to crush a YA treat or piece of kibble on top and that would work too but, that is off the table now with his chicken allergy.

I still don't have the "hang of" predicting from his cycles so need to pay more attention to that. It is great to have experienced users give you clues as to what to look for - the best teacher is experience - thank you. I am so used to other types of insulin and panic when I see those ps highs. I had planned to hold and then saw the 294 and decided to increase - my bad!

No, I haven't tried the Bonita Flakes with Andy or even kibble but now must consider both since he is gettingt so picky! Thank you again.

Just make sure that it is a low carb kibble like Young Again or EVO, wellness core, Dr. Elsey's Clean Protein Again, and Wysong Epigen 90

Another thing that I used to do was sprinkle a little Flortiflora on top of meal as if I were lightly salted it. Their is animal digest in that the attracts them like crack cocaine. No kidding. Sadly, I can't use that with him anymore either as it has yeast in it and that was another thing he showed an allergy to. :(

I also heard cats love oregano sprinkled on their food. I haven't tried though.

That has helped with Bubba too! Forgot about that one!

Here is a list of things to try when a kitty goes off their feed as per Jill.

Here's some info Jill often posts when a kitty won't eat:Here are some things you can do do entice your cat to eat:
-sometimes in order to get a cat to eat you even have to resort to dry it is more important that they eat. there are a couple low carb / grain free brands -- EVO and wellness core. * I have added Young Again Zero Carb
-making a buffet to give him choices
    sprinkle food with :
    - forta flora -- a probiotic you can get at vets or online. is very smelly and cats love the taste of it.
    - heating food
    - parm. cheese
    - smashed crumbles of dry food
    - bonito tuna flakes
    - halo chicken treats -- crumble into dust over food
    - poor a little water from tuna in water over food ( I use low sodium/no sodium added as other kinds in water has veg. broth in it and I assume that means onions, which are toxic to cats-- check labels)
-powdered oregano. yep sounds weird . but some cats like it and it will entice them to eat.
other ideas of foods to offer your kitty to stim appy:
    - trader joe tuna for cats
-baby food -- beechnut turkey and broth or chicken and broth. they have no onions or other additives. some babyfoods have onions . please read labels if you can't find beechnut.
    - kentucky fried chicken
    - deli turkey /chicken
    - plain cooked ( boiled or baked ) chicken breast
-canned chicken for people (watch the label that their are no onions)
    - chicken broth -- low sodium

Cats that are not eating much for a few days are at risk for hepatic lipidosis
Last resort to eat give Medium or the high carb, wet food

Maybe this is like catnip - I guess you could use that too if your cat likes it. I am making a list so if this happens again it is readily available. These will help with my other older cats too that are on restricted diets to help them from getting bored. Thank you.

My Big John has a beef/beef products allergy; another civie has allergies to rice and salmon and on a renal diet - very limited choices for her.:(
