Yesterday's thread: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/2-23-max-pmps-443-4-409.211125/ I think today is going to be a better day--fingers crossed!
I have a rare Sunday off and it's cold and very windy outside. This is how Max and I will be all day if you need us!
I love it!! Soo warm and comfy! We're having a blizzard today and it's SO trippy to see blue skies and the sun shining, but the high winds blowing the snow around. In all my years here I've never experienced a blizzard in sunshine. Enjoy your day off!
Ok! So next time I give the Gabapentin I'll give him half a dose or less. He's prescribed 1ml to supplement the 0.17ml Buprenex and each time I've given him the Gabapentin he's acted a bit loopy. Staggering, sleepy eyes, etc. He's eating and drinking fine, but I think a whole ml is a bit much for him.
Was looking into the dosage they gave Max and it seems they "maxed" (ha) him out! They started him out at the highest--10 mg/kg every 12 hours. The liquid concentration they gave me is 250mg/5ml, and they prescribed him 1ml twice daily ALONG with the Buprenex. I gave Max 1ml a few hours ago (50mg!) and he's been acting loopy ever since--no wonder! He's acting pretty sedated and walks like he's drunk (even more so than he does normally with the neuropathy). I will definitely not be giving him such a high dose again. I might 1/4 it next time and see if that helps. Jeez!
Reminds me of when at work, a technician forgot to write down that she gave gabapentin to a cat and I freaked out wondering why the cat was acting so drunk when we hadn't given anything to her! No one knew why and since the vet was in an appointment and the tech was busy elsewhere, it was a very confusing 5 minutes of me observing the cat. Tech came back and said, "Oops!". Hope Max feels better with the the bupe and gabapentin though
I think it's wearing off now. My goodness...he was so out of it all day, hanging off the top of the couch while he napped, stumbling around the house, flopping down when he wanted to rest. He laid on me for a little while floppy as a ragdoll. I had no idea they set him on such a high dose! He seems to be sobering up now, haha.
