I tested Max (twice) this morning and his AMPS was HI. I don't know why! It just seemed to come out of nowhere. And to make things worse, I gave him another fur shot this morning! I've not had one since the last time I told you guys. Not a great start to the day. I'm home today so it looks like Max will be getting his plain chicken and broths again throughout the day. For the last several days Max's abdomen has seemed firm and bloated. At first I thought maybe he ate or drank too much but it's not gone away at all. I took him to the vet yesterday and they did an x-ray. Vet said everything looks ok (no noticeable tumors or fluid accumulation or anything) except that the liver is enlarged. He's pretty sure it's because of the pancreatitis. He said the liver is usually the last thing to become affected and there's nothing we can really do until he's past all this pancreas business. He recommended milk thistle to help support the liver. Has anyone heard of this? No vomiting, diarrhea or constipation since I posted last. Whew!
That poor baby...sorry to hear he's not feeling so well...if it's the pancreatitis again. Give him some scritches from us...
He'll be getting lots of love and scritches today! His second ultrasound is in a couple more weeks to rule out pancreatic cancer. Though my vet yesterday said he doesn't think it's cancer. He says Max seems to be doing too well for that and that his blood work from a few weeks ago didn't really indicate anything cancerous. Still gonna have the ultrasound done though because you just never know and I know how sneaky cancer can be...
P'titis can linger for quite some time. Continue with pain meds, pain alone can increase glucose. Since running HI, are you checking ketones? I've heard of milk thistle but do not know what it's good for.
I just ordered some milk thistle and it should be here in a few days. Paws crossed it helps! Here's a photo of Max's (and my) current mood.
I'm just looking again at his SS and I'm thinking the HI reading may be a bounce from last night. His PMPS was 227 which is notably lower than usual. Maybe he dropped low in the night and his body freaked out. I wasn't able to get any post-shot readings because I wasn't home. Either that or the vet gave him some kibbles during his stay yesterday and I wasn't aware
You may need to completely switch food (at least for a while). When Gizmo was getting over an episode, switching to a food he never had before sometimes got him to eat a bit better. Just my $0.02 Many vines
