Better AMPS this morning. I chickened out and gave him 5.5 units instead of 6. Classic "me" move. I'm not even sure it'll make a difference but I was called to jury duty this week so I can't leave the court to check on him or speed home if I need to. Not that I think anything will happen given the numbers he's had lately, but you just never know.

Max had another x-ray last week. You can follow his updates here!

Milk thistle, how do you give it to him?
One of my cats has high Liver enzymes. She's lost weight & barely eating. I tried giving her Milk thistle ,just a pinch, in a little baby food in a feeding syringe. She goes crazy Screaming & salivating. I tasted it & It's bitter.
(I won't give her a pill, a few years ago I had a cat choke on a pill. I smeared it in butter & put in his mouth. It must have gone down the wrong way ! I tried everything to get it to come out, but he died.) It was 10 pm & the nearest emergency clinic is 20 mins away.
I cannot give pills ever again!

Best of luck with Max :)

Oh no! What a horrific experience!

I tried putting it in his food but you're right...it's bitter! I'm going to try to order a chicken flavored kind from a compounding pharmacy. I don't know how they'll be able to flavor it but it's worth a shot. If nothing else works I can just squirt it into his mouth with a syringe like a normal liquid medicine.

Are Max’s blood work liver values up, or does he just have an enlarged liver? Now that he is up to six units, you might want to consider getting him tested for what we call high dose conditions, acromegaly and IAA or insulin auto antibodies. One in four diabetic cats has acromegaly, which is caused by a benign tumour on the pituitary that sends out excess growth hormone. In addition to causeing diabetes, the excess growth hormone can cause organ growth, including the liver.

What I don't get is his liver was considered "normal" on his ultrasound on Feb 20, and high liver values haven't really been an issue. But his abdomen has seemed firm and enlarged these last couple weeks so I took him in for a regular x-ray and vet said his liver was enlarged. Didn't take any blood work then, he just looked over the blood panels from Feb 20.

Looks like we have a nauseous kitty tonight. Not sure where that came from. He threw up bile twice which he normally does on an empty stomach and has zero interest in any food, which is very unlike him. I had to put a Cerenia pill down his throat because he wouldn't take take it from a spoon. Hoping that stays down and he's able to eat something before AM shot.

Edit: BG levels aren't low tonight so not currently worries about hypo. Gonna try to get some sleep. Day #2 of jury duty tomorrow!

Edit Edit: No money for further testing at this moment unless it's an emergency scenario.

Welp, just vomited bile again. Probably threw up the pill. I think I'm gonna drop him off at the vet's as soon as they're open and have them keep an eye on him while I'm on jury duty. See if they can get him to eat, maybe give him a cerenia injection, fluids if necessary.
