Does anyone know where we can buy this product Our Roops needs it. His neuropathy is not improving. We tried to order it from Amazon last night but it does not ship to Canada.

We'd like to order some of this for Roops, or give him the equivalent.
Has anyone found it in Pet Stores?
No idea where a pet pharmacy might be.

Hi I'm Diane and I used to give my cat Zobaline. I guess you saw the price in Amazon for a quanty of 60. $29.80 + $4.99 for shipping. 3 mg. Price is ridiculous.A woman on this site told be about the same thing which is Methylcobalamin Vitamin B-12.
I now buy the same thing at Vitacost which says on the bottle 5000 mcg which means 5 mg. The woman on this site said to open the capsule and just put the powder in their wet food. The cat only absorbs so much and the rest they pee out. I use the complete capsule. Sometimes I open one and pour half in and put the capsule back together again and use it next time. The only difference is on the back of the Zobaline it has folic acid 200 mcg. There is none in the Vitacost brand, so I just went out and bought folic acid and crushed it up and put it in his wet food. I couldn't find folic acid 200 mcg so I bought folic acid 800 mcg and cut it in four's, so I had 4 pieces of 200 mcg each. I'm sure you probably could find it in 200 mcg so you don't have to cut one up. The Vitacost brand costs $ 17.57 for quantity of 60. and $ 9.99 for shipping. I have been using it for about 5 or 6 months now and see an improvement in Tyler's back legs. I see they do ship to Canada.
Besides that I like the capsules better than the Zobaline tablets, you don't have to crush them. Google Vitacost.com and where it says search type in
    Vitacost Vitamin B-12 Methylcobalamin -- 5000 mcg - 60 Capsules

    Hi Roops Mum! :bighug:
Maury had diabetic neuropathy in his hind legs and front paws at his worst. Please consider that Methylcobalamin (B12) will not necessarily fix it alone. The best thing to help (at least in our experience :bookworm:) was to get his BG under control. This does not mean regulated. Have you started testing his BG at home? It really is the best tool for this sugar dance :). Someone gave me a couple Zobaline samples to try so I think he only got it in 2 meals. So five months later (yes it is a very slow process, nerves are the slowest thing to heal in any living animal including us) his neuropathy was reversing greatly. By month 6, I could say he was fully recovered :cat:. Like I said, during that time he was not regulated but I was controlling his BG as best I could and his body would work with the insulin :blackeye:.

With that, should you choose the product that Diane has listed for you, you'll want to use Folic Acid with it as the B12's absorption is assisted by Folic Acid. Like how many vitamins to properly absorb into systems have a buddy vitamin :D. I think @Bronx's dad had his own products for using B12 and folic acid. Last time I checked the links, I couldn't find the product again. I've tagged him to see if he: 1) Is the right person (Sorry Bronx's dad if I didn't remember correctly ) 2) If he is the right person, he might have new product links.

Good luck to you and Roops! The neuropathy makes the FD more heartbreaking, in my opinion but it can usually be reversed :bighug:

    Hi Diane,
Thank you for you help, and recommendations.
I will be sharing this info with my daughter.
We are most eager to begin treatment (B12 wise) for Roops.
Instead of improving his neuropathy has worsened since insulin treatment has started.
We believe he may be B12 deficient.

We are in the process of trying to switch him from dry kibble, to only wet cat food.
So far it is not going so good. I gave him Friskies Seafood Medley, and my daughter offered him
some Fancy Feast Salmon yesterday. He didn't touch the Seafood Medley but ate a good portion of the salmon
while we were gone. By the time we returned home I realized he was loosey goosey and remains so today.
Poor cat. So scratch off fish for him, or only give him it in limited amounts. Perhaps on special occasions.
We will be trying beef, chicken or turkey. No more fish. We believe he may have a sensitivity to it.
We have not begun giving him probiotics and
are waiting for him to just clear it from his system.

We hope to begin testing his blood sugar levels next week.
That will give us a clearer picture of what is going on.
We have also begun to wonder if Prozinc is not the correct insulin for him.
To date my daughter has spent several thousand dollars on his care.

    Hi Maury's Mom,
    Yes neuropathy is horrid.
I hate what it does to animals.
We are hoping to get his diabetes under control,
    and the neuropathy reversed.
Our Roops walks heavy, and cannot walk far without resting.
Jumping is difficult to non existent anymore.
Yet he was not this way when he was first diagnosed and treatment started
That's why we are wondering if Prozinc is the best for him.
Blood sugar testing begins at home this coming week.

Howdy! Do you mind me jumping in and asking you, what's the difference between being regulated and being controlled?

I'm so sorry to hear that Roop is having these problems. My own sugar baby had awful neuropathy when he was diagnosed in February. He walked completely on his hocks with his back sort of hunched. He's a big boy--my gentle giant--and it was so sad to see him walk like that. I was extremely fortunate with Jack, as he immediately responded well to the change in food and to the insulin. His numbers have gotten so low that I haven't given him insulin for the last 5 cycles, and he's remaining in the greens so far. (Shh... I don't want to jinx it.) I also use Zobaline. His neuropathy has greatly improved after only 3 months, but he is not yet completely on his toes. Like Yong has said, it does take time.
I'm so happy to hear that your daughter will be testing at home. It's the only real way to keep him safe and to be able to work on lowering his blood glucose levels. It's the best gift that we can give to our sugar babies.

This is wonderful information! Thank you for sharing it. My guy is on Zobaline, and this is the route I'll take when he needs more. Zobaline is expensive!

Has your daughter ever considered making Roops food at home? I never thought I'd be interested in preparing raw food for my cats, as it seemed so time consuming and complicated for some reason. But now, with a diabetic cat and another with early stage of kidney disease, I needed to find a food that would work for all of my cats. Some of the members here use a complete raw food supplement that you add to chopped or ground meat. It's very simple, and very healthy. I just started using it. The company is Food Fur Life, and the product is EZ Complete. They ship to Canada. It's something to consider, as he's not taking well to other low carb options, and raw food is so healthy for every cat. (There is also the option to add EZ Complete to cooked meat.)

Since Zobaline is just 3000mcg of Methycobalimin, 200mcg of Folic Acid & fillers, you can get them separately (without fillers) and mix together in his food:

Here are a few of what I used in the past, I am against using fillers (like magnesium stearate) whenever possible:

    Methycobalimin:
    https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IQB2UYS/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (2=4000mcg) or
    https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B008NIHCZC/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 (2=3000mcg)

    Folic Acid:
    https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0058AA46W/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (2 drops=200mcg) or
    https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VVL6G0A/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (1 drop=200mcg)

Sorry all my links are Amazon, but maybe you can find this stuff on other sites

Hi Paul, Since I have seen a lot of people use Zobaline, I am the one that posted the pic of the B-12 Vitacost 5000 mcg , The Zobaline was getting to expensive for me to use since I have Tyler's brother who has kidney disease and seizures. Tyler is the one who has diabetes. So between all the medications they both take and supplies for Tyler I switched to Vitacost B-12. My question is because I am also new to diabetes, is the limit you should give a cat of B-12 3000 mcg's and 200 mcg's of folic acid? If you read what I wrote to Roops mom I am using the Vitacost B-12 5000 mcg , I empty some out of the capsule soI try not to give all 5000 mcg's only because of what is listed on the Zobaline 3 mg (3000 mcg) I buy folic acid since there is non in the Vitacost brand, I give 200 mcg's . I can't remember who told me on this site, if I give the 5000 mcg of B-12 it's ok because they would pee out what ever is needed, something like that. So my question is how much B-12 is ok and how much folic acid is ok. Is it ever ok to give more than 3000 mcg of the B-12 and more than 200 mcg of folic acid? I saw you are from NJ so am I

Hi Diane, I have also read it is OK to give extra B-12 since the excess will just be excreted in the urine. However, I have no idea if Folic Acid is excreted the same way so I always tried to limit it to 200mcg.

Yep, been here my whole life, in Bergen Co

Hi Carolyn! So sorry for the late response. It's been a busy week . From my understanding, regulated is when you have like smoother cycles so let's say kitty starts with AMPS of 150, will gradually drop down to nadir and then gradually go back up to a similar PMPS. Controlled is keeping it from those reds and black high numbers as best you can and giving their pancreas a break. Example, Maury's SS from like February through first couple weeks of July his BG was controlled and that's when his neuropathy was reversing and improving. After a few weeks on Lantus, he became more regulated - not such drastic cycles. Hope that was understandable :D. I think there are better explanations/definitions around here somewhere :bookworm:.
