Need help looking at options.. rehoming?

Hello all, I am writing this with such a heavy heart.

I posted awhile back asking questions about how to travel and get around with having a diabetic cat. The schedule demand for Rumpy has cause my personal life, my relationship, and my job to suffer. I have no family or friends to help and am financially tight. I have no savings for rumpy as I have ran out of that. I love him so much and it makes me burst to tears even thinking about rehoming him.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to rehome him? I've never done this before and am truly feeling sick to my stomach. I feel like I'm giving up on him, but I just can't keep up with the schedule like he needs. His numbers keep climbing higher and won't come down. I am leaving for spain in two months and can't take him with me or afford boarding. I am moving in a month and will be further away from my job and have no idea how to fit his tests and shots into my schedule now.
Any advice would be great.. I am having a really hard time and feel like my life is suffering in all areas.

I reached out to them and was told it will be extremely difficult to rehome him and then they didn’t respond when I asked what the meant.

 

It means we have a lot of other diabetics looking for new homes.....but it only takes 1 person seeing the post and deciding that they want that cat!

There's just no guarantee …..we can only post them to gain more exposure

Many, i think even most, diabetic cats go into remission if treated consistently in the early months. My cat was not treated and abandoned at the shelter underweight and quite sick. Please do your best to get your cat care. Maybe you can rehome him more easily if he isn’t sick.

Check with the shelters and rescue groups in your area. Sometimes they know of adopters who are looking for a special needs pet. I know this may sound crazy, but one of my diabetic cats I adopted because I found a post on Craigslist.

A lot of people like us go looking for one eyed, big headed, old and generally "unadoptable" cats. Have patience.
The monster in the pic below was already crammed into a carrier when I picked him up, maybe they thought I wouldn't want him if I saw him first. He was a 28 pound beast who had another eight wonderful years with us. Not everyone wants a kitten.

 

Shelly, just wanted to say if you're feeling guilty about any of this you shouldn't.
In 2003 my wife and I bought this house and somehow ended up with nine cats. By then I was already on long term disability, what could be easier? Of course no home is complete without a dog so we then adopted a Border Collie. If you know anything about this breed of dog you'll know they can really test your patience and any relationship you're in. I know exactly how you feel and the line in my signature "forever has to mean something" started to have consequences. As time went by we began to spend mortgage payments on dental work, mysterious ailments and vaguely worded "wellness exams".
I could never have done this at your age. My life was working two jobs and committing the next 10 or 15 years of my life to a cat just couldn't happen.
We don't shame people here for not making their animals the biggest part of their lives, sometimes it's beyond impractical. Be patient and when the time comes Rumpy will have a new home and not because he's an adorable kitten but because someone like us and many members here are simply drawn to cats like Rumpy.
We're not ready for another cat just yet having just rescued a 70 pound dog and my 80 pound mother in law. Have patience and be kind to yourself.

 

You're in Dallas, TX? Crap.. if you were closer, I'd take him! My Fena is still shaken up over losing her brother Mao, as am I actually. We love being together but we miss "others".
