Sir Rumpy has arrived in his new home. I haven't tested him, he's quite irritated right now but that's to be expected. He's surrounded by different smells, other animals, new dance partners...but he'll be fine. He's set up in his own 'room', huge kennel and covered.

We'll start Levemir tomorrow as the only thing that didn't make the transfer was his current pen of Lantus.

Shelly has taken wonderful care of this boy and he's just gorgeous. A BIG boy too! I can't wait for him to settle down enough for his personality to come through.

Welcome to your next adventure Sir Rumps!

ETA: I'm not an Angel or anything 'extra', I'm just a regular human with knowledge I can use for a fuzzy feetz in need. Besides...I was beginning to miss having a dance partner.

What great news and a huge relief that Rumpy is in his new home with such an experienced and loving new Momma. You may not be an angel (some would beg to differ) but you are an answer to a prayer. Sometimes thing do work out well and that makes it easier to handle when other things don't. Thanks Lyresa, and we will certainly be following Rumpy's progress at the new digs.

Awesome! I hope Rumpy settles soon!

What a relief Shelly was able to find a responsible and knowledgeable bean to take over the excellent care she’s been able to provide so far. A hard day for her to be sure, but a success all the same :)

I’m really happy for you too Lyresa that you’ve gained a new family member, I hope the transition isn’t too tough on anyone involved. Best of luck!!

He's still not a happy camper this morning but he's getting very curious about all the different sounds. I kept him covered last night and thru all the 'littles' food/potty/etc this morning but lifted cover a bit ago. He's looking around and much calmer in stance. He's not yet eating much but also expected that too - I suspect that will change by noon.

Hummmm....even being as stressed out as he is, numbers aren't high enough to shoot when I know a lot of it is stress induced. Last night, growly, hissy, scared, not eating - it was only 192. This morning, still hissy, growly, huge eyes but a bit hungry, he was 179. He's decided he'll let me willing pet him for a few minutes. He also decided that hunger strike yesterday wasn't fun and has eaten well this morning.

OK - knock me over with a feather. He's eaten a whole can of lc, still huge eyed and growly/hissy but not much of anything behind it. Just did another test - this one I'm calling AMBG (179) +6 - ready for this?????

    Drumroll......................

    127! :D :cat:

That AMBG was expected - actually expected higher. There was likely still about 100 points of stress rolled in there.

I'm shocked and VERY pleased. He's getting a bit less growly and decided a bit ago that a chin scratch was better than a hiss.

I'm glad he seems to be coming round and that he's decided that the hunger strike was a silly idea.

I wonder if he is one of those kitties whose BG drops when he is stressed? I know that Amy's Trixie would drop BG when she visited vet.???

I iz 'pooter nerd...and spreadsheet nerd...

I created it but the functionality already exists in pieces, you just have to put the right pieces together in the right order. Easy? - everyone has a different level of 'easy'. For some yes, for others, not as easy. It does require some rewriting formulas when the year changes as the tab name changes.

It’s very easy to do, Nikki, if you have any experience with excel or google sheets. We already have this in reverse in the Tech Support Forum and I also developed one similar to what Lyresa did for a member who was American using a US meter but living in a foreign country where her vet needed World numbers. I just never posted it but I have it on my google drive in case we ever have another need for it.

Without the moderators wanting or asking for another template, I would not add the one I did over a year ago to convert US to World numbers to the post in the tech support forum. For a lot of US members, they have no need for that World sheet and it would just make matters more difficult for those not used to using a sheet that converts numbers. It comes with its own temperaments. Having that conversion type of arrangement also makes it very difficult to have a template on the SS where members can make a new SS each year using the template on their existing SS.

I’m glad Rumpy is eating. As you know, it just takes time and patience with changes. I’m am sure he will also grieve a bit for his loss of Shelly but he will be fine under your great care. Especially since he’s eating.

Marje, this came from a request of several metric members that can't view the many US sheets and make any sense of them. We fail them in the ability to review and learn in numbers that they understand. Jill is involved in the conversation.

I agree, our US members understand our own numbers but the rest of the world doesn't. We learn from reading other posts, reviewing others spreadsheets but for those not US based, we immediately put them at a disadvantage. That's not fair to them in any way.

Not sure how it would make anything MORE difficult. I enter my number on my US sheet, everything else happens automatically - both calculations and colors. I do nothing different than I would if that page was NOT there. I DO get the end of year change which is what I brought up above as well as in our discussion. There's ways to do it but it would require changing the currently written instructions dealing with tab naming convention making 'Current' always the current year's tab.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Everything in the thread Lyresa mentioned is completely up in the air at this point. No conclusions have been drawn. None. At this point, nothing mentioned in that entire thread has been been presented for approval by peers let alone taken to the next level for vetting and approval by moderators and Admin. If or when it is, we would most certainly contact @Marje and Gracie for her input. We've not only relied on her efforts and expertise which has been extremely important and helpful not only to our members, but to all those who join the FDMB for the express purpose of 'using' our spreadsheets and other information many of us have put together and/or compiled over the years.

FWIW... at this time, I think we should all be more concerned about Mr. Rumps. We have a former DKA kitty who is probably missing Shelly, has been transplanted into a place with people he doesn't know, hasn't had any insulin for several cycles (thank heavens for the insulin depot!), and whose dose has just been restarted this morning... although reduced from 3u bid to 0.5 unit. If he's not yet eating as much as he usually does (he's recently had a big appetite as noted on his original ss by Shelly), the stage has been set for ketones developing. :nailbiting:

    Just sayin'...

Of course it would follow that path! I would be very disappointed if it didn't.
No he's not set up for ketone development, I know what I'm doing. Just because you've not seen me 'perform' here recently doesn't mean I don't know anything. He IS now eating properly and not ravenously due to constantly having to save his body. He's also now on Levemir, a very different action. His body is in a very different place than it was in March. I also check ketones twice a day with his Breeze system. Today's Lev+5 of 74 even concerns me that, at this point, the .5u is too much. He's still stressed, his numbers should still be more stress induced - the Lev drove him to that point. That 74 was with a full lc carb load 45 mins before which should have kicked that up about 25 points more. Not nearly enough room for a Lev drop that will hopefully level out and continue for the next 4-ish hours or longer. BTW - the link to Shelly's old spreadsheet is top center on the new one.

@Jill & Alex (GA) , just because you're upset with me over something else doesn't mean you should make any comment like that in my condo. You would not have done that to someone else... :(

    That's awesome!
I'm so glad! As we both know, checking for ketones is so important. Heck, kitties can still develop ketones when blood sugar levels are not high.
I hope so! Time will tell. His numbers could very well be stressed induced. That does work in both ways though. I remember Pam's Stasha would routinely drop into the 20s when visiting the vet. Rare, but it does happen.
Yes, I saw it. It's where I got the link.
Whoa! Do not put words into my mouth to put a slant on what I have said. I am not upset with you over something else. Most know I speak up when I see something which could be concerning. And that's exactly what I did, have done for many years, and will continue to do in the future. I would expect nothing else from any member. This condo is a perfect example of why the FDMB is an open board... open to peer review.

Completely...no worries. If things aren't discussed, we do nothing to IMPROVE and keep up with the world that's out there today. Without improvement, we become stagnant and outdated. When that happens, we're no use to anyone. Some of us tend to be quite opinionated at times but that's a good thing. :) Our goal is always the same thing - help new sugar baby's Beans learn to 'sugar dance'.

Sir Rumpy's doing awesome for everything he's been thru this week!

Hi Lyresa, glad to hear that Rumpy is starting to settle. Poor boy he must be wondering what is happening.
I remember when I first got Sheba and Max (from a rescue) Sheba was terrified and hid for 2 weeks, and Max just strolled into the place as if he had always been there.
I can't see where to find Rumpys SS? It's not I your signature that I can see.....am I going blind?:blackeye:

It makes it more difficult because if a US only member with a World tab (that they don’t need) enters, for example, “100 @ +4.5” or any text that is not just a BG, then it results in an error message on the World tab. That means the US member either has to manually fix it or the Non US people have an inaccurate view of what’s happening which is not good if the non US member is dose advising. Believe me, I deal with a huge number of members who don’t have any experience with these SSs and asking them to go one more step, just so someone else can be convenienced is asking, IMHO, too much.

The moderators might disagree with me (@Jill & Alex (GA)) but we are, in my view, a US based group. We do help non US members by making the conversion sheet available to them but if they are posting here, they should understand what the US numbers mean because our regulation methods are primarily geared towards US numbers.

I have experimented, at great length, with different naming “concessions” so the World/US SS users could have a template tab and it is not as easy as you state. Once they go from “current” for a certain year, when the year changes, they have to rename both of those SSs with the exactly correct names and replace all the formatting in the US SS so it still matches the World SS for the specific year. There is a shortcut but it’s one that most members pull their hair out with if they are not SS gurus so I do it for them. After that, then they could rename the new SS “current”.

But....here I will apologize for condo hijacking from Rumpy’s great news and good fortune.

First - DANCE WITH ME! We got in a test without any type of restraint! He sure was telling me all about how inconvenienced he was and how he didn't WANT to do it...but he did! :) PMBG 118. Lengthy comments on spreadsheet.

It's above in this condo - I haven't edited my sig again and added it. But, just for you, (hugs and grins) here it is again :) https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1wA5Iy3GTAWrmLFqA11FmaPO9VDi9w3ngsozLP1zJ0vQ/edit?usp=sharing

What about all our Canadian members? THEY have the same issue. That 'US View' above may have been the focus years ago but social media has changed that. People from all over the world are sent here - we even have members right here that not only speak their languages but also use translators to talk thru problems. We ARE no longer a 'US based group'....nor, IMHO, should we be.

@Marje and Gracie - that world template is very complicated but I think it's being 'over-thought'. Each page wouldn't need a viewer - rarely do people go back to a previous year unless it's the fairly early months.

Hugs to all and likely good night...

Oh, wow, haha! It is so strange to see that! :woot: ...Even after over 12 years here I still have to 'translate' US numbers before I understand them well enough to help someone. (But I am a bit of a slow old fart.) I can understand the colour ranges, of course, but not the fine detail without my calculator here next to my keyboard.

Well, yes, we are. We've had members from Canada and overseas since before I was here. That hasn’t changed. It’s up to Robert and the moderators as to whether that changes...not you or me.

I don’t know many members who are willing to disregard previous years’ data and certainly not delete it; it’s a hassle to have numerous separate SSs. Earlier SSs are a learning tool. I actually do go back and look at older tabs to see how the kitty has progressed. I find it extremely helpful that, for example, Jill leaves all of Alex’s SSs available, as I do for Gracie. There are a lot of good lessons in them. Every experienced member here, regardless of whether their cat is GA or not, should have their SS linked for newer members to see.

But, as I said, these are the decisions for the webmaster and moderators.

Very loud and mouthy Sir Rumpy says Good Morning World! I haz a hungry! HEY HEY HEY Lady - I haz a HUNGRY! He handed me a 267 at AMPS - the cycle last night completed at about +8-+9. That's a quite loooong cycle. I did provide support again this morning at a fat .25. I need to safely establish a good stable depot, .5u dropped him too hard when a good percentage of that is still bound to albumin and not yet releasing - the Levemir depot design for precipitation.

He's a bit of a 'court jester' too - he now hollers to see if one of us will come see him or say something to him. About 10pm last night he got extremely upset and wasn't a happy camper for a bit. I expect him to go thru these occasional 'sad' cycles for another few days - after all, his whole life has changed. I'll start a new condo for him in a couple of days... :)

ETA: This boy has neuropathy badly - he's completely down on his back hocks and fronts aren't up on toes. We started Zobaline yesterday but it's going to take a while to resolve this.

We send hugs to all that visit! I haven't added ssheet to sig yet so here is another link:

Looks like this is going to be a good dose for depot build and supporting a good glucose cycle. We have a nice onset off that 267 at AMPS with a +4 of 180 and +6 of 124. That's a nicer slide than yesterday's dive. Today is still only using a small portion of that f.25 so still a sniggly bit of concern that this is still a 'fat' too much at least. We'll see how the day plays out.

Rumpy has more love than I ever thought he would. I am thankful to be able to check in and know how he is doing

Oh he IS a mouthy one. I just plain laugh - when all finally settles down and integration is complete, he and Snow are going to have quite the conversations. Snow has more sounds than any cat I've ever heard. Different sounds mean different things, I've figured out a few. He used to talk back to Dakota but Dakota wasn't very 'conversational'. These 2 are going to be a hoot, probably a really loud one.

This last test, instead of half climbing in and picking him up, I held out my hands, he came to me. Grumbled about it but willingly came. He now lays down for his test - I get on the floor with a sheet, originally had to wrap him a bit but it's now the 'test spot'. He did get his first 'out' time for about 20 mins before he got a bit antsy - all the others were asleep at the other end of the house. Gosh he's one strong muscular boy! Build like a bulldog :)

    HUGS!

We close out a beautiful day with a PMPS of 154 (about 25pt-ish food influenced), a lot of progress, lots of eating, beautiful run of numbers on a single dose of Lev f.25. I removed the 'fat' touch off tonight's dose. This shot starts building the depot on this morning's shot. This morning's dose precipitation gives him a touch more than just that injected .25 to deal with.... This will even out as the depot is full established.

Sleep well - Sir Rumps just hollered (and boy does he!) ROOERWER...whatever that means. :)

    AMPS 148!

Sir Rumps sends very LOUD greetings this morning - the kind that means 'Hey MamaBean - I haz a BIG hungry!' Don't know why as I was up at 4am testing and feeding. That 94 was a nice surprise on just .25u of Lev. Ketones neg. I 'reinstalled' the '4am feeding light' to it's 'proper' place hanging on my cabinet door knob. :) He grumbled about testing this morning and I'm still perfecting my shooting technique with a really short haired kitty. It's SO much easier to shoot long haired ones! I have to grab/roll a couple of times before I get a good shot spot. He's sort of funny - he anticipates and 'flinches' before I even get close with the shot. I stop, settle him down a bit and roll while petting, shoot and pet - he doesn't even react to the REAL shot. Goofball!

Have a wonderful day - since I STILL haven't changed my sig, here's the link to his beautiful ssheet again:

Happy to hear things are going well for Mr. Rumps! :)
Have to make my comments short... leaving on a jet plane.
Truthfully? I'm definitely optimistic, but can't stop biting my nails quite yet.

As a former DKA kitty, stress from a new environment, switching insulin, combined with the substantial dose reduction... we both know he's not out of the woods. After all, up until a few days ago he was a tightly regulated kitty. At this point, he remains at an increased risk for developing ketones, BUT every single day without is HUGE!

Fingers & paws crossed. Wishing the best for Mr. Rumps! :cat:

I don't know if anyone ever asked Shelly for a 'Whole Cat Report' but, if not, someone should have long ago. He's still completely down on his hocks and should have started B12 weeks ago. It's bad enough that he's having a touch of trouble walking very fast at all. :( I can only give so much B12 and time - makes me sad but other than that, he's feel well.

We close out the evening with a bit higher PMPS of 178 - influenced by baby sheep. :) I ran out of his boar treats, couldn't get any in BiggerPodunkOkla on my trip north today so having to give Lamb. They're higher carb and didn't realize it until I saw that number. I'll have to use sparingly as this is the only thing I have and can't get more until my shopping trip south Monday.

Sweet boy is curled up in his blanket already - sounded his good nights not too long ago. May you sleep well, see you in the morning...

    HUGS!
