Good plan to go the ER. On a blood ketone meter, at 2.4 is when ketones are present in a cat's blood. Get another test and make sure your strips are in date before leaving.

    Please keep us posted.

Double check with another test. Make sure your using ketone strip. Has she ever had DKA before? How is she otherwise, eating, drinking, any possible infection? I think reduction was to much, if libre is accurate, increase is in need.

Thank you. Called emergency hospital and they said they would hesitate to give her fluids because of her heart murmur so I should retest in an hour and if it's going up bring her in. Meantime try to get her to eat and drink. Thanks again.

Thank you so much. I did retest and keytone strips are good. She has never had DKA. She is eating and drinking and does not appear to have an infection. I agree about decrease being too much. I was following doctor's orders but I think she's wrong. Thank you so much for your advice.

Numbers that high are in a very dangerous range. If you tested again and they are still that high, I'd get her to the ER. Treating ketones involves more than just fluids. If you take her in, bring your meter. If they test her in the ER and get different numbers, something may be off in the way your meter is calibrated.

    Phoebe also needs more insulin.

Excellent advice. Thank you very much. I've tested 2 more times and the number is going down, but I will keep a very close eye on her. I agree about more insulin.I will raise her dose tomorrow am.

J.J I am really curious. Your spread sheet says Phoebe is wearing a Libre Freestyle 14 day sensor. How does that work? I looked at the website to read about it previously but figured you would never be able to get a cat to wear one. Obviously you have. Where did you put it and how did Phoebe react. And do you reset it after 14 days?

A few here have tried it. Vet has to put it on their back, neck area. It's changed every 2 weeks. I think you scan the sensor or maybe it up loads automatically to spreadsheet. I don't know how you get it to your ss though.

In our case, the doctor wrote an RX and I picked the meter up at the store and brought it back so the doctor could put it on. She put it between Phoebe Squeak's shoulder blades on her back with skin glue (after shaving a patch) and didn't cover it at all. So, P.S. scratched it off right away and I had to buy a second one and go back to the hospital again. At this point they sent her home with some mesh sort of thing over the sensor which she promptly got stuck in her teeth, so I had to buy her a surgery recovery outfit that she does not enjoy wearing. After 14 days (if it lasts that long) I have to have the sensor taken off at the hospital and if you want to do it again you need to buy a new sensor for the next 14 days. Many folks have asked me about the meter so I think I'll start a forum about it today so all questions/info will be in one place.
I love Zoe's pose in her photo!
