Since Morpheus was diagnosed, his numbers have remained pretty high (in the 300+ area, with some reaching into the 400s) with the infrequent mid-200 here and there to confuse us. With the addition of his lameness, which coincides with his high glucose readings, we were pretty sure the hyperglycemia was partially caused by that pain. Add to that the fact that he's nursing a painful UTI and we're into the third week of antibiotics and we were almost certain about his high blood sugar's cause. Now erase the word "almost".

I think the antibiotics are finally doing their job. Last night he got to his box by himself, without waiting a long time, or asking for help. And he looked offended when I asked if he needed help to get back to his bed -- right before getting out of the box and walking steadily over to his water bowl to get a drink. This is a very MAJOR accomplishment. It's been hard for him to even turn over for a few days now. I was really, really worried about him. He looked weak and shaky to me. He also looked like he wasn't eating very much.

So I cut down on the amount I was feeding him, since he wasn't eating it, anyway, and now I give him 1/2 or a 3 oz Fancy Feast or 1/4 of a 5.5 oz Friskies. His brother enjoys what's left of the can and I do another glucose test 3 hours later and feed him again. It seemed to be helping his blood sugar a bit, keeping it much lower than it had been -- lower 300s as opposed to 400+. So instead of eating two meals a day, he pretty much snacks a bit throughout the day, and I think it's helped.

Then, yesterday, when he urinated, he wasn't making that loud sound he'd been making.. it was more of a soft meow. Today, nothing. And I can pretty much pinpoint when something kicked in. His last really high reading was 418 mg/dL on 6/11/19 at 9:31 p.m. CST.

We gave the usual 3 units for a high like that. And I got the following numbers:

    • 06/12/19 12:57 a.m. 292 mg/dL
    • 06/12/19 06:24 a.m. 266 mg/dL
    • Breakfast: 102 calories/5% carbs
    • 06/12/19 07:18 a.m. 305 mg/dL
    • 06/12/19 07:33 a.m. 3u Vetsulin/inj
    • 06/12/19 10:36 a.m. 158 mg/dL
    • 06/12/19 08:08 p.m. 168 mg/dL
    • Dinner: 85 calories/5% carbs
    • 06/12/19 09:03 p.m. 321 mg/dL
    • 06/12/19 09:17 p.m. 3u Vetsulin/inj
    • 06/13/19 01:04 a.m. 247 mg/dL
    • 06/13/19 04:04 a.m. 118 mg/dL
    • 06/13/19 07:08 a.m. 195 mg/dL
    • Breakfast: 107 calories/4% carbs
    • 06/13/19 07:51 a.m. 189 mg/dL
    • 06/13/19 /// NO SHOT GIVEN ///

That's the last reading I did. I'm following the advice on the Vetsulin sticky here and waiting a few hours so I can test again to see if he needs a shot. I'm hopeful about the good readings, though. He just looks so much more relaxed.

I'm very glad to hear that Morpheus is feeling better, Hooray for that.
Thanks for the update and providing the testing and insulin data. If you would set up the spreadsheet and enter those numbers, it gives us a better format to review that data and see the bigger picture, with the color coding helping to show the ranges his BGs are in. Since we are placed geographically all over the country and the world, and can't always relate to what time it is where you are compared to any other member, using the spreadsheet grid to record the first morning preshot test (AMPS) then when you tested after that injection, one hour +1, two hours +2 etc. Then the evening preshot number (PMPS) 12 hours after the morning shot, and subsequent tests.

You can use the comment sections to tell us about what he's eating, how much, how he's feeling etc.

Is good to hear Morpheus is better :)

An infection or desease will influence his blood glucose levels and as soon as the infection clears his numbers will probably go down a bit so you will need to monitor closely and probably you will need to adjust his insulin dose a bit

Thanks :) It really did seem to affect everything when his UTI started to respond to the antibiotics. His pain has gotten more manageable for him and his blood sugar is definitely more under control.

I did manage to finish his spreadsheet, which only made me realize I need to test him even more.

Thank you, so much. I'm so sorry, I really thought I answered this? Maybe I answered you in my head. I did manage to get the spreadsheet done, although, after seeing it all in print, I realize how much I've probably missed. I have volumes in my little notebook - it's a 100 pages and almost filled in just about a month, very detailed stuff about what he eats and when and how long I microwave the little rice sock I made him for his back - really useless stuff, when it comes down to it, but it's kept me on track. And I know, for certain, that some of those one shot days were two shot days... I just didn't write them down. (ETA: Because I forgot.)

Anyway, rambling now. Just wanted to make sure to say thank you for the help with the spreadsheet. It really helped.
