    http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/alice-6-13-day-1-after-surgery.215622/ yesterday

We are waiting to see vet now to remove IV catheter. Other human did her shot a little earlier than I had asked for, but within 30 minutes so it’s okay.
No +2 because we were driving.

She is eating some (or was at home). Bupe kept her very calm during the drive.....

Will update vet visit in a bit. Will try to get a little more Bupe.

Got more buprenorphine, this time for twice a day instead of once. Stitches look good. Catheter is out.

Odd thing: +3 at vet was 96. She was stressed.... then she wasn’t. Fed a little HC.

Showed vet the first poop post-surgery pic and we broke it down a bit. Vet says “honestly she probably has some IBD.”

I wouldn’t disagree with that as a possibility.... and it will be my next thing to research so point me towards links if you’ve got them, por favor! :)

Happy you are home & getting some answers.

I have a close friend who used to go to IBDkitties.com for info. There are so many people on this site with cats with IBD, maybe start a thread asking for resources/links for IBD & hopefully you will get some great info!

Thanks for the website!! I’m not surprised by the dx because the ER vet suggested it, she threw up kind of regularly most of her life and so did her brother when he was alive. She doesn’t throw up the wet food but I think she might not absorb some things as well.......

Also they really liked her t-shirt sleeve over her belly. :D

Oh and stitches look good. Vet explained why she was so apologetic about how they looked (just because it looks brutal but not because something was wrong) and the seepage and suggested her BP may have gone up a bit because there was not seepage at first.

Good appetite when we came home and now she is pooping. Poop #3.....

So good to read positive reports on Alice!
    Wishing speedy recovery.

As far as I know a preventative/ maintenance daily dose of human proB is often recommended for IBD.
Ducia does not have IBD but I did a course of RenewLife 15B and going to restart soon.
It has no odor nor taste so it all went well.

there are other proB used on this Forum, too.

Probiotics were once recommended for one of the ginger boys who also probably has some sort of problem like that—he rarely has an appropriate solid fecal score. They at the time recommended some sort of product that comes in little packets, a powder with probiotics and some extra nutrients. I wish I could remember what it was called. I still have it though it is expired so I figure the living things in it are no longer living. :b

Thank you for the links and info. Will be working over the next few days to slowly research and digest (haha!) the info available.

I’ve seen IBD mentioned on here a lot so I completely do expect there will be some people with experience to talk to if I post on the main health forum. :D I’ll get to it.....

Thanks for checking in on us today. How’s Ducia? :)

    FortiFlora?
It is pet's proB, I might be mistaken but the maker, (was it Purina?) had some stains on their reputation and Ff quality was questioned.
I use it for appy stimulant - per Dr. Pierson, even expired one smells attractive to the cats.
But I'd prefer human grade proB, maybe because we can share..;)..
    busy bouncing, the usual.

    +5 is 56!!!!!

But she has not eaten nearly as much as she usually does. I am just setting some 20% I opened yesterday in front of her. I was planning to leave home in a bit...... she needs the calories right now and she already had LC earlier.

+6 even after HC and some Sheba (3%) nibbles was only 82 from 56!!!

Ketones just tested, no more than trace.

I am going to leave the house for a bit. I gave her more HC just now to finish off the can of FF for the day. She has LC out too.

Onsior was given around her +5 after she ate.

The IBD site is one of the best. It has suggestions for probiotics, eating and other items.

Glad things are looking good at this point.

My regular cat had an ugly poop after her dental, that can just be from stress and the procedure itself.

Whaaaa came back home and she was up on her feet, had eaten all her foods except the corners of the bowl that were hard to get, and at +9.75 she is 54!!!!!!!!

    Feeding more HC.

Could the tumor have been causing a problem with her regulation that removing it would have already addressed in some manner? I know she is eating a bit less but it’s almost all HC today. Hmmmm.

Also, I know 54 isn’t bad. It is not understanding the new hardcore low insistence this cycle that makes me wonder. I also don’t want her to have to bounce. Cats heal so amazingly well sometimes though once you address the problem, that I can’t even...... she is back up on her feet a lot more than I think I would be in her condition!!!

PMPS 126. I was trying to get her back on her regular time and I guess now I need to delay and restest in 20 min.... :\

I will do that, but she has mostly had HC today so at her usual 4u if I do give that dose..... I will be probably propping her numbers up again.....

I would be tempted to give her the reduction to 3.75; she didn't "earn" it, but it looks like she would've if you hadn't been intervening so much. On the other hand, everything's so wonky right now .... I'm not comfortable giving dosing advice. Do you think she'll eat an adequate amount of lower carb, or is she likely to be on higher carb for a while? Seems like whatever gets the most calories in her right now is the most important thing. So glad she's eating for you!

The video made me cry, bless her heart.

Couple of things could explain the lower numbers today....1 is that by getting rid of the uterus and ovaries (spay) she's not getting some of the hormones she was getting with them still in

Another possibility is that some cats go lower under stress....China earned several reductions while we were in a strange hotel room when my mom was having heart surgery and I always had to be careful when I took her to the vet because her numbers would drop instead of going higher like "normal" cats.

I think you're exhausted and could use a good night's sleep....How about doing a BCS tonight of maybe 2U and hopefully getting a good night's sleep?

Giving ANY insulin doesn't guarantee you won't be up all night testing (due to the depot) but it'd give you a better chance and as long as her ketone status is looking good, I think it's worth a try

Thanks for weighing in. I expect to probably feed her MC if I shoot the whole dose, and quite possibly even if I don’t. She did have some LC through the day, but the 20% was more motivating to her for sure and easier when she kept hitting a surprising range in the 50s.

All I know is that besides her health I need a window at some point to sleep. Did not get an extra nap today. If I can work it in, anyway.....

The total volume she is consuming is far less right now, but that doesn’t seem like it means much if her BGLs aren’t really jumping much from HC. 4% twice as much or 20%? Mathematically......

Thank you for popping on. What would you recommend I feed in that case? You are right, I do need sleep. I would rather her be safe but if I don’t sleep some I won’t be able to keep going on a more serious day. I will still be up at some point in the middle of night as always now, to feed everyone including her their next wet meal. Spoiled suckers. :)
Does shooting a lower dose still mean 12-12 schedule or can I move her up a little bit tomorrow if her numbers are okay for it? I am 1.5 hours past our usual shoot time tonight.

It will depend on the AMPS number.....but unless she's like around 300, I wouldn't shoot too early and just work your way back 30 minutes per day (or 15 min per cycle)

I'd go back to the lowest carb you can get her to eat, but for now, just making sure she IS eating is more important

Grab a +1 and +2 and go from there

    Alright!

So PS numbers all fasting, 126, 24 min later 128, 20 min later still 128. Shot 2u.
Fed last of HC can (1/4oz?), and Friskies 1/4 can LC. Added water. She is alllllll about it hungry.

Clinical signs are amazing all things considered. Purring, chirping, getting up for food. I can still tell she lost a little weight since surgery but if she stays low BGL she will put it back on so fast because she will be able to eat so much. <3

+1 is 144, after 1/4 can 4% Friskies and a scoop of 20% FF right after shot.

Feeding 1/4 can Friskies LC (w/water). Seems her appetite is quite returned for the moment.

She has also left the cupboard area for the towel and blanket middle of the floor spot I made for her. (Less hiding out.)

Great that she's eating better!! Told you she'd recover quicker than you thought!

Hopefully you're going to be able to get some decent sleep tonight before you end up being the one that needs a caretaker!!

Yessss I am too doomsday catastrophe too quickly. :nailbiting:

Which just means hopefully I get a good window in of 4-5 hours tonight altogether so I can take sleepy anxiety medicine. :D That way no one else needs caretaking either. Haha.

Will you be up at 12:30cst? That will be my +2 and then I need to plan what food to leave out if she isn’t hanging in the danger zone then I could do +6 and that gives me 4 hours......

What would you consider “doing okay”?? Still interested in food and no lower than 80? She doesn’t seem to be taking any weird dives or even weird increases even when HC is given.

+5 149, definitely leaving some food out and getting some sleep. She seems more bored right now than anything.
