I would like to know of other members’ experiences of managing DKA/Pancreatitis, once the hospital has stabilised a cat.
Muffin was admitted last week as an emergency because she has ketoacidosis, dehydration and pancreatitis. Her diabetes was diagnosed six months ago, she’s been on ProZinc 1 1/2 units twice daily, but has not been able to stabilise her blood glucose.
After making a good recovery, I brought her home today, administered her insulin as instructed and then did a spot blood glucose and to my horror, it had gone up from 10 to 29.4! The Vet School had got it under control and now it’s right back up again.
What does this mean? Has anyone had a similar experience? What is Muffin’s prognosis is the diabetes still does not get stabilised at home? My heart is breaking.

Hi Diane How is Muffin feeling? Is she eating? If you come post in the Main Health Forum you will get more eyes on your post.

Hi Diane, I suggest that you copy your message here and create a thread on the Main Health forum HERE, then paste the message in that new thread. More members scan the Main forum than this Intro/Welcome forum.
It would be very helpful to advising members if you set up the spreadsheet and enter the insulin and testing data. We are data driven here on FDMB, and they may not be able to advise you as well without that information.

I'm sorry I can't address or answer your questions, no first hand experience. But I do know that we have many members with experience with pancreatitis and DKA, and they will want to help you with your questions and concerns.

I’m very new here and I don’t know how to do this - the post in the Main Health Forum. (not normally a useless person)
Today we had Muffin’s follow up appointment and her blood glucose was through the roof (35-ish) yet she is in good spirits, eating well and basically, being herself. Shortly, I am going to administer her first dose of glargine (lantus) as the ProZinc just doesn’t seem to work. She is such a trooper and a good patient. But her weight keeps falling..she was a fat (4.98kgs) Cat last October and is now only 3kgs...but still...in good spirits. Should I be hopeful about this??

Ok...I think I just posted my message in the main forum.
No data yet, though. I’m just changing to 1 1/2 units lantus next jab as the ProZinc just doesn’t seem to work.
