Hi! So The past week Zoot! has been in the yellows and blues, and doing fine. This AM we are on the second time adjustment (15 minutes each adjustment) and his number soared to 426. Could this be a result of our shifting the time later by 15 minutes each dose? Maybe I should do this more gradually?

    I did
    6 AM yesterday AM
    6:15 yesterday PM
    6:30 today AM

We are switching time to 7:00/7:00.

    Opinions? Thanks!

Hi! I didn't see any answers re: Zoot!'s high reading. Do you think I should do the adjustment at a slower pace? I have plenty of time to make this adjustment.

Changing the time of the shot by 15 minutes per cycle shouldn't have any noticeable effect on BG and certainly not that much. My guess is that Zoot is bouncing from those blues yesterday or may have gone lower last night than you are aware of.

Thanks. To be honest, I tried to get two additional tests last night but he was not having it at all. I wish I had a more cooperative patient. He was normal clinically last night - may be only slightly more anxious about food. I did wonder if I would get a bounce from the blues.

I don't think that changing the cycle by 15 minutes would have any influence on the BG. I believe Zoot may just be bouncing from the blue numbers he had recently.

Try not to get too excited about that high number - instead focus on the mid-cycle test results. I know quite well about the uncooperative patient - I felt like I used to have to pay Luci to cooperate... it was a tough time indeed. However you will get thru this - just be patient and reward him generously for any cooperation - getting on the test place every time - lots of rubs and hugs - or whatever he likes. Luci has come so far she lays there and purrs the whole time - she was so wild when we first started the vet told me she'd only tolerate that a time or two, and then she'd hide from me...he was so wrong! She has hidden a time or three...but hardly all the time. I whistle now and she will come from where ever she's at to the testing place.

Keep getting those mid-cycle tests...you'll see, it'll all work out. Best wishes to you and Zoot :)

Will do! Will try to get more mid-cycle tests in. I wasn't too freaked out about the high number; but didn't expect it!

+9 is 349, not so happy about that. Is there anything I can do or do we just ride along till the next shot at 6:30?

I know poor Zoot doesn't like his ears stuck still, but I usually re test immediately when I see a low or high number that seems lower or higher then expected. Most often its correct BUT I have had a few that were different. The only way I can be sure is to retest.

You are asking a lot. He made me promise not to test again :) He is just lounging around (as he normally does) and gets up when anyone goes into the kitchen (which he normally does). I will see if he is amenable :-(.

Another thing - when I went to collect the blood, the meter timed out, and then I got an error message; I had to run to get another test strip, then take the blood. He had smeared some of it, so it definitely touched something before I got back to him.

Ah....Well fingers crossed...maybe its wrong! Test again!

I now take my vial of strips with me to where I am testing so that if I have to whip another one out I don't have to disrupt the rhythm of the testing as much

PMPS was 303, which makes me think the 349 might not have been an error. Still he is ready for his food and insulin coming up shortly
