    Hi all!
Scooter is doing very well. He’s still eating good, feeling good and his numbers are good.
The vet called Monday with his test results. He said his Amylase was elevated, but his white blood cell count was not. He said the elevated Amylase indicated pancreatitis, but he would expect the WBC to be elevated too. I’m not sure he did the spec fPL test. I really don’t know anymore than I did. I don’t think he knows much about pancreatitis. There is another vet in the next town that’s supposed to be good. I may try taking Scooter to him.
I let Scooter try some of his Tiki sticks and Mousse. He really, really likes it! I’m saving the rest in case he has another spell. It seems to help to feed him something different. Thanks to @LizzieInTexas for providing and @Penelope and Mačka for the suggestion.
I’m on the way to Fort Worth with DH for a follow up from his surgery in September. Hopefully he’ll get a good report.

Prayers and vines for all kitties and beans in need!

Jill - Scooter has a beautiful spreadsheet. It looks like you have pretty good blood test results so far - I wish you luck in finding a better vet - BUT, after a poor start with my vet concerning diabetes, we are forming a better bond now and he's taken a special interest in Tina. My initial reaction was to find someone new, but now I'm glad I didn't go that route. Maybe your vet can learn a bit from you? If not, start looking! Scooter is wild gorgeous; I'd love to pet and scritch.

Have a safe trip and we will wave at you, because you'll be fairly closeby today! We will be waiting for a good report on your DH.

Good to see Scooter is doing fine, but as you said it might be a good idea to see the other vet! Nice for the Tiki sticks!
Hope for good results for you DH. Have a great day !:)

Hi Jan! I’m waving at you and Tina! I will keep using my vet for most things. He is a good vet and I’ve used him for many years. He does both large and small animals and it’s a very busy practice. I think he just hasn’t seen much kitty pancreatitis and doesn’t have time to stay current on it. I’m just thinking maybe I need to find one more knowledgeable about pancreatitis. Thanks!

So glad he likes them. They're quite irresistible. However recently Macka was having diarrhea after eating them, not sure 100% it's the Tiki, but maybe! The velvet mousse are also great mixed with water for syringe feeding BTW.

You are correct. .Eelevated amylase is not indicative of pancreatitis. That is an outdated interpretation of labs. It is the case for dogs (I think) but not cats. You need an fPLI to test for pancreatitis.

Glad to hear that it looks like Scooter is doing well...and his SS is enviable! Look at all that GREEN! Beautiful! How long before your next reduction? :D:D

I haven’t quite decided. My rule for reductions has been for him to be spending a good bit of time in the 50’s and PS low 70’s and 60’s. He’s almost there butt not quite. I’m at least waiting for the weekend when I can get some more tests in and have a better idea what he’s doing.

Check Nelli last labs out (SS). Only thing elevated, Amylase. Talk to @Marje and Gracie (Biologist)- She minimized it, almost negated it as any issue, as I remember… Don’t remember her exact words. Just an FYI to you I know that Marje is out of the country for a few weeks so she may not respond to this tag. Everything looks great! So happy for you and Leo :bighug:

We made it to the big city and back. Doc says DH has a screw loose.
Really what he said was that the vertebrae has not fused to one of several screws that were put in his neck. He wants a CT scan so he can get a better look. The good news is that screw is still in the right place, the vertebrae have fused to the other screws and the rods are in the right places. We can get the CT scan done here and send it to them, so we don’t have to go back for that.

Responding to @Krystina & Nelli tag :) Almost gone but not quite yet. We leave Sunday :).

All who responded about amylase and pancreatitis are correct. It is more accurate in dogs but not at all in cats. He’d have needed to do a snapfPL or a specfPL. And if Scooter had symptoms and was sick, I’d suggest an ultrasound because cats can have intestinal and/or gallbladder or liver issues and it can raise the specfPL even if the pancreas is actually 100% fine. And just because the WBC is normal doesn’t rule out pancreatitis

Have you read my Primer on Pancreatitis?

I hope everything is ok on the CT scan. I was born and bred a Cowtown girl! :):p I haven’t lived there since 1983 when I moved to AK for work but a very large number of my family is still there. I get over there about every 3 mos.
