Just an update on Salem since I haven't been on much lately (which is a good thing lol) since school started and I've been super busy!

So after tomorrow he will have been OTJ for two weeks. He's been holding pretty steady except for a few slightly higher numbers, but he's brought himself down quite nicely. I'm more concerned with the overall patterns and as you can tell on the Relion sheet, he's been pretty consistent AM and PM wise. Behavior-wise, he's much more active and seems to be feeling much better. I guess it was the dental that did it? I noticed his teeth and breath started smelling around the same time I started noticing his diabetes symptoms so I'm guessing they were related.

I still haven't called the vet about this and honestly I'll probably try and find a different one in the next few months but I'm going to be pretty selective since I'm fully expecting to have more issues with him in the future. If anyone has any vet-shopping advice I'd appreciate it! Or recommendations in the DFW area. I'm just hoping he can make it the next few months so I can focus on finishing school and getting a better job.

For now I'm going to keep with the Fancy Feast and testing him at least weekly for a little while. I also need to get both of them to lose a few pounds so I'm going to start getting more aggressive about that now that he's actually using his food. It took me a while, but I'm at the point where I want to be really pro-active about their health and a more responsible cat parent from now on.

(Sorry this was so long :D)

Amy, I am absolutely thrilled for you and Salem. Great job getting him to this point and I'm sure he will complete his 14 days off the juice today.

Not sure what "issues" you are expecting?!? Yes it's possible Salem could fall out of remission and watching his weight, keeping him on a low carb wet diet, being proactive about dental care and dealing with any medical issues promptly are key to keeping that from happening.

There are some tips HERE for vet shopping and you should post in Health with a title like "Need Vet recommendations Dallas/Fort Worth" to see if you can get some suggestions. You'll get more eyes on your question there as it's not insulin specific. There are several other members in Texas although I'm not sure how many are in that area. I know one is in Austin.

This morning he was 58/103 which are nice numbers! And I’m concerned since he’s had issues with constipation in the past and has thickening on his intestines. Which hopefully the wet diet will mostly fix that but I still want to keep an eye on it.

You know what to pay attention to so that's helpful. It's really just not letting things slide if you notice somethings up. Check BG if you notice any change in behaviour, bowel habits, appetite off etc. and get to vet if BG is elevated or symptoms continue for more than a day or 2.

Well Salem decided to round out the night with a nice 87/53!!! I'm going to officially declare him OTJ!!!! I'll start checking him just weekly for a little while and I'm sure he'll appreciate not getting poked all the time.

I'm so thrilled for you both! When you have a minute, you might like to add Salem onto the OTJ roster HERE.

Hello Bron! Kyo has been doing fantastic! She actually had a frutosamine test scheduled today. My senior year of classes started so I've been so busy with all the work, but I miss the community :bighug: So happy to check back in and see good news though!
