He is still feeling very lousy, tired and with diarrhea. He eats some of the Recovery food (I think it's 10% carbs) and some Young Again dry food, but not with a lot of enthusiasm.

His internist thinks that on the day he visited the dental clinic (6 days ago, the day after I got back from our trip), which was the day I weaned him off the steroids, he had a lot of stress and decompensated by having a IBD flare... :(

So he's back on his initial Budosenide dose of 0.5ml and I am waiting for a call from them to see what are the next steps.
I feel extremely guilty because if this is true, then it's my fault that he's sicker now and at risk of some serious complications. By intervening too much, I actually create a mess, and it's not the first time, I did that in the past and live with a huge burden of guilt. I want to cure my cats, save them, and end up messing up with their medications. I really hope he can recover from this. Obviously, his dental procedure is being delayed to a subsequent date.

A favorite saying of a dear friend of mine is, "Guilt is for good intentions that you don't really have. " So, you were doing what you thought was best. Feeling guilty keeps you stuck rather than moving forward. (And frankly, there are any number of us who would be giving you a very hard time if we didn't think you were doing what you thought was best for your kitty.)

I would suggest getting Mackca on some S. boulardii (probiotic) for the diarrhea. Macka will feel better one the diarrhea is under control. If the raw food is not a novel protein, please consider novel proteins for the IBD.

Thank you for the suggestion. I am going to go buy some right now.

He actually never had turkey before, and that's what I was giving him in the last month and a half, and his belly was doing great I thought. The only raw food that was not novel and that he was loving more than anything else is beef. :/
I was also feeding him duck, venison, lamb...

If he was eating chicken, then turkey and duck are not truly "novel" proteins. All I'd fed Gizmo until he was diagnosed with IBD was chicken and turnkey and my vet said that duck was too closely related.

Here is a thought, isn't duck higher in fat? I always found it to be greasier than other meats. Could that possibly be part of it?

It’s ECID on IBD. My girl could eat duck and turkey, but not chicken. One thing I would suggest is putting away the YA for a while. Heard lots of stories of kitties with GI upset on that food. It’s very rich and yet another protein. Recovery is chicken. Figuring out what an IBD kitty can eat is hard, and very frustrating. Don’t be hard on yourself. :bighug:

Duck is higher in fat, but that usually isn’t a big issue with cats. Turkey is very lean, so is rabbit and venison and kangaroo. Pork and lamb are also higher fat. It is best to find one protein he can eat, and stick with it for several weeks, before adding a second.

I doubt it, although you're right. While I was away he was fed raw exclusively, turkey and beef. And before that too for t least 2 weeks.

Yes, i've heard about the upset GI. He was okay with it for a week before I left though. The problem is, now that he is sick, the Young Again is one of the only foods he will accept (with the recovery) so it's hard for me to resist, but you're right, I am going to stop. I am not sure it would be the only reason he is sick because he's really sick, not just a little upset.

He was having turkey for weeks without any issue. Same with the turkey bone broth. He was having all turkey and made beautiful poops until I came back from vacations.

I gave him the S. Boulardii this afternoon (1/2 capsule of 5 billion so 2.5 billion in some recovery food). Please cross fingers with me and for him :)

How bad is it when you blend it? What I mean is, I am vegetarian and never handled meat in my life, apart from the frozen raw sliders. I have a very hard time with organs etc... Can I replace the liver with something else?

I wouldn't. It was just a suggestion. It looks like a smoothy. No chunks or anything. Really green. Lol (from the SPIRULINA).

    Have you tried scrambled eggs?

no!! I didn't know I could give scrambled eggs to a cat? It is good for the calories intake and the GI?

Not sure about GI but yes, you can feed them to cats. Low carb too. Fry in a bit if butter. No seasonings if any kind.

Thank you! He is my baby and my one true grumpy love, we've been through everything together. I am trying hard and putting all the energy that I have to help him. But we all do the same here!

Not sure if you've seen these instructions for S Boullardi on ibdkitties.net, but sending it on so you can see the dosing that they recommend under the section "EMERGENCY “STOP DIARRHEA” DOSING INSTRUCTIONS" in case you don't already know.

    https://www.ibdkitties.net/supplements/probiotics/

Fingers crossed you can get the Diarrhea under control soon :bighug:

Should I let him surf tonight without feeding the curve? I’m a little nervous because he didn’t eat much tonight...
