    Hi,
Anyone knows which tiki cat food has Low carbs and phosphorus? My diabetic also has kidney disease. Amazon is having free international delivery so I would like to get some.
    Thanks.

The Tiki Cat Aloha Friends and After Dark lines have not been added on the catinfo food chart, latest version has 2017 data.

Tanya's CRF website is expected to update the food charts sometime in mid-January 2020. So another week or so. List there for many Tiki foods but the data for the USA canned foods is from 2017 mostly. http://www.felinecrf.org/canned_food_usa.htm

For UK canned food data from Tanya's CRF website is mostly from 2010 with a few from 2012. http://www.felinecrf.org/canned_food_uk.htm

If you look at the headings, the 4th column across has the amount of phosphorus/ 100kcals. Look for 200mg phosphorus or less although many people say 250mg phosphorus or less/100kcals is acceptable.

So you do a risk assessment, long term and short term. Which has more immediate health consequences for your cat, not eating because of the pancreatitis? (risk of hepatic lipidosis). High BG levels? (which over time can do a lot of damage to your cat's organs and may lead to heart disease or other organ failure)? Possible kidney issues from constant dehydration when feeding dry food? Or the possibility of some type of cancer that may or may not happen? Or your cat bleeding internally because they don't have enough vitamin K?

What about all the ingredients in your cat's food? or environmental exposure to chemicals, both in the home and if you let your cat wander outside? or endocrine disruptors?

Pros and cons to all cat food and the food we humans eat. Pros and cons to all the decisions we make, really. Life is about compromises. Nothing is risk free, you do the best you can, for yourself and your cat. ECID.

    Burp. Back 'atcha.

I feed the Tiki Cat because of the low carb and phosphorus. For flavor types that did not have the nutritional breakdown on the food chart, I check on Chewy.com since a rep will often answer questions about the carb, phos, sodium content for many of the flavors and types they sell...usually based on the " dry matter" analysis. Then I just compare it to the known foods with similar numbers of carbs/phos.

I didn't think all of the flavors had the K3 supplement, but I am not as concerned since it's the last ingredient and my guy likes it...
they discussed it on one of the post on Chewy but I can't find it.
looks like the Aloha brands do not have it

I haven't checked the phos levels but when I was looking it seemed like the tuna was always too much in other recipes...tilapia, salmon and sea bass were okay but I try not to feed my guy fish only foods.

He loved this brand and it was carb/phos appropriate with no K3 supplement

I figured the Tiki Cat gourmet carnivore listed in the Food chart was the Dark series since the list doesn't cover dry foods - or atleast close enough in breakdown since there are not much more additives in the dark series.
I just tried to match the flavors ( chicken/duck or beef/chicken) with that list on the FDMB food chart.

@Si am cat mom are these food ok?

Someone responded on my post on fb about the toxic chemicals in tiki cat : Sunflower Seed oil, Choline chloride, Sodium chloride, Sodium senenite, OH NOOOOOOOOOO Vitamin K This is so deadly and has been documented for taking out the KIDNEYS!! So especially ckd cats should NEVER eat anything with synthetic K.

    now i’m very confused!

I listed the ones I knew of without the vitamin K.
You should be able to see all the ingredients on Tikipets.com or Chewy. Their customer service is also nice- I called :)

You would have to check on some of the other ingredients if they bother you, but I don't see the other you listed in Tiki - only the sunflower oil. I have only read a few articles about sunflower seed oil and they were about GI upset not toxicity.

Most of the king kamehameha flavors are on the FDMB list...the Bora Bora ( Sardines/ Lobster) is 377 phos but the Manana Grill ( AHI w/ Prawns) I already listed and fed is only 151. It is also on the food chart.
So some flavors not in the variety pack are better.
Tahitian grill ( Sardines) is 400 for phosphorus.
The Hana Lua ( Ahi Tuna/Crab) is 231.
Most do have tuna and/ or sunflower oil.
You will just have to cross check nutritional values and ingredients.

Thanks so much! I’ll look through slowly and check the ingredients. They have so many flavours. Cross checking takes a while. My civvie has IBD so I think I should stay away from sunflower oil.
I’m not sure about the other chemicals and their effect on the cats. Need do lots of reading up.

I'd check whatever fancy feast you are feeding...most of them have the Choline Chloride and Menadione. If it hasn't caused any issues yet then...
Anything in higher quantities in dangerous- even water. Too little sun= vitamin D deficiency; too much can lead to cancers. Be cautious and definitely check ingredients, but I wouldn't obsess is all I'm saying.
The Tiki Dark doesn't have the sunflower oil, but does have the vitamin K. I'm not sure it it's in there due to the chicken liver ingredient since it's the liver that would process/ breakdown Vitamin K1 and K3.
Small amounts of sunflower seed oil have been known to help with constipation- but can cause diarrhea if overly used which is why they list GI upset. It is high in Vitamin E and omega 6, but I haven't seen anything listing it as " toxic".

Wow u are so knowledgeable. That’s why I luv this forum. Everyone is so helpful and caring.
My cats get bored of the same food so I must have a variety. They have Fancy Feast pate - chicken liver, seafood, salmon, ocean fish besides Fussie cat, wellness core and another local brand. All listed as Low carbs in the chart. But some have high phosphorus. So I do give them phosphorus binder.
I have never bothered to check on the other minor ingredients until it was highlighted to me today. It’s already so tough getting Low carbs Low phosphorus food where I am. I really don’t want to delve too much into the minor ingredients. But if something will trigger GI upset then I will stay away. Cos he’s on antibiotics like forever.

After having Fancy Feast pate the last few days, my civvie is pooping few times yesterday. Maybe it’s the effect of menadione or some chemical in FF. The diabetic is fine though. Sigh! It’s hard to feed different food to different cats.
