I think I know the answer to this, but wanting to make sure:

Freckles is at the lowest number ever @ +11 this morning (158). A few factors to consider
    - she had 3 teeth removed on Saturday so hopefully the source of her insulin resistance is gone
-158 is the lowest that Freckles has been EVER, never mind @+11
-we just increased to 6 u last night
-she usually has a relatively flat cycle
    -green is the goal
-I won't be home to monitor until PM shot time

I will test at AMPS and see where he numbers are going
A couple of things to consider: her numbers could continue going down until AMPS, numbers stay the same, or numbers rise.

    Give full 6u?

    Hi Judy
See what he is at AMPS
I don’t know Freckles very well but just a few questions
    Is he eating well?
Do you leave food out for him during the day and will he eat it?
Are you gone for the whole day?
    What are your thoughts?

    Thank you Bron.

Freckles is a voracious eater. She has a 5 meal auto feeder set out for her during the day and mini meals @+1, @+3, @+5.
I'm gone at work for the whole day (I commute 1 hour to work). DH may be around the yard today.

I'm thinking to shoot the full 6 u and feed medium carb food for the day while I'm away?

I have the same questions as Bron and Sheba - will you be home today to monitor?

Sometimes dental resolutions can help to bring those numbers down - this might be that time - Freckles is healing and it would be good if you could get additional tests today.

I think I'd probably do the same...Freckles needs her juice. MC food will help to prevent any super low drops. If you can get DH to check occasionally it would be wonderful!

Sorry I called her a he. Sorry Freckles... I love the name!
As long as the AMPS is not falling I think that is a really good plan Judy

I'm at work until @+12. DH will be around today to test unless he is doing chores/farm emergency. We are experiencing -40 C weather this morning!

I have 12 carbs FF. That would be considered medium carb if I'm understanding things correctly.

Yes medium carbs. That’s a good idea until you know if the dental has reduced the need for insulin and you can test and find out. great if DH can test for you.
-40 oh my goodness. That’s cold!

With meter variance that is probably ok. Do you want to take it again?

    Ok.
    Well we can’t stall.
I’m thinking maybe a reduced dose and still put the MC in the feeder.
    What are your thoughts ?

I'd leave the MC out just to be safe. It's fine if you want to wait to increase. It's your call -- you know Freckles best.

I don't know where you live but it's WAY too cold.

Yes, it's cold. I increased to 6 u last night already. Go back to 5.5 u and medium carbs?

I’d go back to 5.5 or even 5 for today because you won’t be there to monitor. And medium carbs But you must be comfortable with the decision.

I think I will go back to 5.5 and medium carbs. I'm going to take her with me and leave her at my mother's house in the city. I can then test in 1 hour and again @ +4. Sound like a plan?

Sounds like a very good plan. It’s great when you can have a plan B

At work now. Thank you so much for your help this morning @Bron and Sheba (GA) , @Sue and Luci and @Sienne and Gabby (GA) . Freckles numbers went to 12.4 @+2 so she got her regular low carb food in her auto feeder for the rest of the day. I will run home and check her @+4.

She certainly deviated from her regular pattern of higher BG prior to shot time, so maybe the glucose toxicity is finally breaking!

Sorry @Bron and Sheba (GA) , @Sue and Luci and @Sienne and Gabby (GA) - I just realized now that I didn't convert the world numbers in my last post. I hope no one had a heart attack when they saw 12.4! Thanks again for your help this morning - we both really appreciate it.

@+5 she was 230 all is well. I probably messed up an opportunity for Freckles to be in the blues this morning. If her numbers wouldn't have been dropping from @+11 to AMPS, I would have been ok to shoot the 6 u, but in the back of my mind I'm thinking whether the dental issues were contributing to the glucose toxicity and now that the teeth are on the right track, she may be breaking through the insulin resistance. She certainly didn't follow her 'usual pattern' !

It even got colder here as the day went on -46c with windchill. That kind of temperature actually hurts!

Better to be safe than sorry...you'll get another chance. I'd be reluctant to shoot falling numbers as well...

Sorry I wasn't on when you needed help this morning. I would have suggested 6 units with MC. Freckles didn't go anywhere near green with 5.5 units, she needs the increase. You can go back to 6 units tonight. As far as seeing improvement from the dental, that typically takes at least a week, my experience was 10 days, for inflammation to die down and impact the numbers. Maybe this weekend? Or not, not all dentals have impact on the numbers. ECID.

Some cats nadir later, Neko occasionally nadired as late as +13 when on Lantus, +15 on Levemir. Not always, just enough to keep me on my toes. It could also have been a Lantus double dip this morning, where they do a second little mini curve at the end of the cycle, but not as low as the main nadir. Without data in the wee hours it is hard to tell. Actually shooting dropping numbers is a great way to take advantage of overlap. Here is Libby's post describing why. The whole post is a good read. When you see green and reductions, you'll know glucose toxicity is breaking.

I am glad you had the option to bring Freckles closer to work so you could check on her.

Thanks for checking in on us Wendy! :) Freckles finally provided a little bit of excitement for us (I know... careful what I wish for! lol). I'll take this (and all of the other days) as a learning opportunity.
I'm around this weekend, so I'll be stalking poor little Freckles.
So Neko didn't nadir until into the next cycle? Maybe that is what Freckles is doing because I thought her nadir was around +3, +4. Interesting!
Ok. So that is the indicator! Come on greens!! :D
I was anticipating having to do this, so we have a second bag of supplies already at my mom's place in the city and Freckles has been getting lots of car ride practice (trying to make it 'ol hat).

Thanks again for your input - we really appreciate it!
(p.s. has a lot of information in it. I will have to print it out so I have it on hand. Thanks for the information!)
