Hi! I just made the switch to using a syringe (with half units) from my lantus pen needle. (Yay me!) My question is.....how hard and or long do I have to plunge the syringe to get the full dose? I've noticed that there is a small drop left after injecting my Nova. (although small, It is still NOT the amount that didn't get into her with the pen needle)

Is this a drop that's still inside the syringe?

I probably inserted the syringe, injected the insulin, and held the plunger down for a second or two.

I'd also suggest experimenting. If you have a used syringe. draw up a dose of water or some other liquid, shoot it into the sink and see if there's still liquid in the syringe. Try doing the same thing with pushing hard after you dispense the liquid. Is there anything left in the syringe? It may be the way the syringe is made that causes it to retain a drop.

You don't have to hold very long. There is a video of injecting your cat in this post on Shooting and Testing Tips.

As long as you continue to use syringes, your dose will be consistent going forward - don't worry about the drop.

Yes, the drop is still in the syringe. I use: ReliOn 31 gauge, 6mm length 3/10ml Syringe. I practiced quite a bit after watching the video, I was so nervous. Glad I got the hang of it!

Thank you. I watched the video and practiced quite a bit beforehand. Was just surprised to see the drop. Nova is on 2 units lantus and I use ReliOn 31 gauge, 6mm length 3/10ml Syringes.
