Yesterday. Caber Yr 2 Day 103

Dosecrease given. She took her morning nap in her pen. Came out for her +3 brunch. She does not like Wellness Chicken.

Waiting on labs, should be in. But since her Dr left practice, not sure when other Dr will call. She is now alone and it's a busy place. I will call later.

Later today I am going to add a sheet to the ss that contains the foods I've been trying to get info on for phos & carb count. I have some of the info written all over the place, in emails, I need to get it into one place. There are not to many that are appropriate. And if there is one, she doesn't like it. For now I'm looking for phos under 250 not ideal but better than 300+.

Tanya site is more current but in %, site said it will all be updated next month. Dr Lisa is in mg, and how many should I stay under????? Not sure of the math to convert one to other.

Ollie's is on the fence for ckd. I've been trying to get low phos to help from going over. I'd rather not add more meds if I can prevent. This year I plan to be more diligent though.

Paula , I feed all of mine Holistic Select Chicken or Turkey ... Phos is 221 and 243 respectively ... look forward to your food list .... add to this Elmo is hyperthyroid so no fish :nailbiting: and he will only eat pate ....if Ollie will eat non pate Weruva has Steak Frites 118... even when I spend time grinding it he licks a bit and walks off . If anyone knows how to make it more pate-ish , please share ur knowledge .

Our civvie Allen was on a low carb diet due to the insulinoma tumour and on a low phosphorous diet due to ckd and I found it impossible to find a food to fit both criteria that he would eat. I ended up using a phosphorous binder and feeding fancy feast since he really liked the fancy feast and at least it was low carb.
    How is Ollie feeling today?

Paula, I think I remember you tried the Weruva choices that are LC and low phosphorus (less than 100) . . . (Paw Lickin chicken, Chicken Frick A Zee - both larger pieces of chicken)
I also feed Dr. Elsey's Clean Protein pate, both the chicken (2 carbs DMB, and 125 phos) and turkey pate (3-4 carbs and 145 phos).
I love the idea of putting the knowledge you have gained in your own SS food chart.

Sorry you have to wait another day for the lab results:(

@Beth 73 I used to chop those big pieces up a LOT, but couldn't get it to look much like pate . . . as time has gone on, those big pieces no longer need chopped, to please the princess.

Dr called with preliminary results, I will get the copy later. But I had to chuckle and remember she does not know me or Ollie except that Ollie is acro, she has never seen Ollie.

Well never suspected Ollie has a UTI. So I will be picking up orbax and she will get it for 3 weeks (cuz she is "immuno suppressed kitty"). She hasn't been called that before, but I remember with Smokey and reading a paper on antibiotics use in diabetic cats, author said they should be on antibiotics longer than normal. Guess this doctor feels the same. I'm ok with that. Wanted convenia, but declined that drug.

Potassium is normal but a bit on low normal. All renal indicator are normal.

Here's where I chuckle. Glucose in urine is negative. This concerns her in a diabetic cat. It means dose could be to high. And she could be having to many near or hypo episodes. So I told her what went on over xmas and her dose came down . And I like her to be in the 100's glucose wise (not knowing this doctor I didn't want to say I double digits). So this she was happy with. Overall Ollie bloodwork was normal. Will be picking up AB later.

I can't get a lot of the foods here to try before buying a case. I just might have to though. None of mine will eat shredded or minced food. Pate only.

if it gets to that point I will. I think Marje told me unless phos level was over 6 (I could be wrong) binder not necessary. I'm trying to prevent that.

Did try the frick a zee. She licked it, loves it but doesn't eat it. Been on the fence with clean protein, but next chewy order I might get a case.

Here's what Ravan & Alice get when they don't eat a Raw diet. If I occasionally use a higher PHO. food I add a pinch of binder. Ravan & Alice's Phos. is 4.6 & 4.2. They both get Calcitriol 2X a week. Ravan's last BW was even better than the previous one so I feel the Calcitriol is working.
You can read about it on Tanya's web site.

A while back Sienne and Gabby said she used Calcitriol with very good results. I believe there a lot of talk about it on Cassandra & Garfield posts in Dec.

Whole Earth Farms Real Duck Pate Phos. 130 Carb 4 %
Whole Earth Farms Real Chicken Phos.182 Carbs 10%
Organix Turkey Pate Phos 193 Carb 5 %
Pro Plan Turkey & Giblets Phos 187 Carb 4 %
    Urinary Tract Health

I do not like the Pro Plan but if I'm desperate to get him to eat He'll usually eat some.

Paula, why on the fence ab dr Elsey clean protein ?? Thot I might check that out cos can get a few cans at WM ... you also can get A few cans Holistic Select at Petco if available ...I really try to avoid buying a case of food they won't eat .. that gets very expensive very quickly ...

Only because i cant get just a few cans to try first. Only have Petsmart and Pet Supply here now. Neither carry most of what is on the lists. Pet supply really cut out a lot of brands.

So far my guy likes the Tiki cat dark series and Soulistic Chicken pate which are all low carb and low phos.
I had tried adding the Halo Rabbit pate to have a high LC option when we were having issues with the Tiki being zero carb and him not being able to surf/sail down. The Halo is okay but it is pretty thick and I end up adding the Soulistic to it.
I think the soulistic is a Petco brand though.

I hope Olive likes some of the new food options you find!

When I've gotten my hopes up about finding Dr. Elsey's wet food in any store (for cans to try instead of a whole case), all I ever find is their litter!!

Labs posted. Pretty good I think.

We now know her renal threshold is under 223 since she spills sugar at that level. Cholesterol is down some. Home test glucose when we left for visit was 127. Her blood draw for lab came back at 151. Not to shabby there.

AB will start tonight. I want to make it a time I am always home and it needs to be at a meal time. And not with her other meds.

I gave a skinny dose only because it was all that was left in pen. Didn't want to start another for just a drop or 2.

AB given. Now just have to figure out when to add probiotic in. She pretty much gets something in each main meal.

I don't think this dose is going to last long.

So working on my food page. I only entered what my cats eat and basically if they like it. And only the info I got from manufacturers. I didn't start this When I was concerned about phos, so those values are missing. Even though it doesn't seem to be an issue now, I am going back to see if I can get them. It doesn't hurt to keep it low if I can. No food is given exclusively in this house but they do prefer FF beef and the FF savorys

Tiki dark I have not seen in stores here yet. But if it's shredded like the regular Tiki they won't eat it.

Looking forward to the results of your low carb/low phos food hunt. The only list we have here of food under 10% carbs, under 1% phos/250 mg P is from 2017. Things change so fast!

Her labs look pretty good. I like how much the phosphorus has come down. :)

Thanks. I try to keep phos under 250. And at least 1/2 her meals are. Guess it's working.

only making the list cuz I can't remember what she likes and if the food falls into the carb/phos range. Now it's on my phone so I can look when shopping. I will continue to look for more variety, it's the spice of life after all.
