Hello! So Garfields numbers have been gross for the last few cycles.
I know we are getting a bit of green and blue from time to time. For know should I be sticking to a fat 1.50 or go up to a small 1.75 maybe?

Also im going to be trying levemir in 2 weeks when I bring Garfield back to the vets. Hoping it will flatten out his curves because he has been on lantus for 8 years and we have never had any sort of stability in his numbers.

    Thank you :)
Edit: garfields pmps was 81. Ive done it before but sooo nervous to shoot such a low number

Hi Cassandra. Looks like you gave 1.5+ units at PMPS.
    Is that correct?
I would get a +1 and +2 to start with.
    I will watch for updates.

Yes but I know you're dealing with a low PMPS...I'd edit your subject line to add that

Ok. Wait another 20 mins. He may keep dropping though because he’s hungry.
You have shot a green number before but it is up to you. You must be comfortable about it.
Can you monitor if needed all cycle and have strips, hc food etc

Ok. Get a +1 and +2 so you can keep ahead of any drops. I’d also give him a low carb snack at +1 and 2. Not a lot. Just a small snack.
I’ll look in in an hour for the +1.

How long ago was your usual PMPS? Can you shoot late tonight and still shoot 12 hours later tomorrow AM and be OK?

Feed him just a tsp or two so he doesn't throw up.

    @Bron and Sheba (GA)

He has barely ate 1/4 of his food.

Yes I could wait to inject 12 hours later tomorrow. He went up to 83 he has been eating for like 40mins. He is still seizing its so hard to see him like this .

If I don't shoot he will be dangerously high tomorrow morning right?

Do you give any madications for the seizures?
Do you need to ring the vet about the seizures?

No meds because it has only happened 2-3 times ever.
The 24h hospital will say to bring him in. His longest episode lasted 45mins.

That maybe the best thing to do and then get some medication for him to have to help prevent the seizures.
I'm sure you are very concerned.

Yes of course im worried sick the thing is the meds have side effects and with his stage 2 ckd im affraid it will have side effects.

Should I inject in 15mins? He didn't go really high after eating shouldn't he be higher then his pmps?

I would not think the meds for seizures would affect the stage 2 kidneys unless they are metabolised in the kidneys.... it is usually more of a sedative type of medications....or it used to be. You would need to be guided by the vet with that. Even a small dose may help..

I'm hoping @Wendy&Neko will look back in re giving insulin in these circumstances.
How much has Garfield eaten since he vomited?
How bad are the seizures? Are they full blown seizures or more petit mal seizures?

Just his head is shaking. I suspect a tumor because he always tries to scratch his head with his back paw. He also has an ear tilt for a few years. He ate maybe half of his normal portion

So he can still function and do things like eating when he is having one of these episodes?

Could you test again? I think it's been 15-20 minute. At some point he should really start rising, and if that still works for your schedule, you can shoot then.

    Poor poppet. :(

The vet had said if he is eating while seizing it can't be that painful for him (according to her)

Totally. He just scratches his head and sort of walks towards the side that irratates him. Its really odd. The video is from his second episode

His number is probably higher now because of what he has eaten. You have shot green before. A delayed shot can act a bit like a reduced dose. How comfortable do you feel shooting? Do you have the ability to monitor, plenty of strips and high carb food around?

West coast of Canada, up at least 4-5 hours. Have to do dinner in there sometime but will keep an eye out. Can you keep the subject line updated? Garfield's name, BG at time you shot and the + 1 and any other values as you get them. That'll allow us to take a quick peak at how things are going and let us know whether we need to jump in.

I want to comment on the video you posted.
I didn't want to comment until the shooting had been sorted out.
Sheba had a very similar head shake, scratching and head tilt to Garfield.
She developed it out of the blue when she was, I think about 13.
She was aware during the episodes and would eat as well. She had them every afternoon for about a week and then every few days. The vet thought it was low blood sugar....it wasn't because the BGs were fine.
I thought it might be fleas .... although I couldn't see any.....maybe ear mites......none found.
Vet gave antibiotics in case it was an ear infection they couldn't see.
    Nothing helped.u
I put frontline or one of those flea liquids on her neck and the head twitching was terrible for 1/2 hour. It really scared me.
She was preoccupied with scratching her neck a lot..
I eventually found a scabby area on her neck which was treated. Not sure if that helped or not.
Bit eventually after about 2 months, it reduced on frequency and eventually went away and never returned.

The only other thing we could think of was the dog had been getting a flea/tick lotion that was toxic to cats (we didn't know this) that caused neurological symptoms and maybe Sheba had got some on her fur and licked it off.
We stopped using it of course.

Cassandra, when you get a moment can you change the subject line to Garfield PMPS 97 (5.4) 2/13 please as most people will not understand to 5.4 number but will understand the 97 and you will get more eyes on it if needed. Thanks!:)

It really seems similar to his episodes!
But never had any flea treatments he is an indoor cat. He has had a pupil more dilated then the other, the ear tilt and now the seizures. If it happens more often ill bring him to the neurologist but its a really expensive appointment. But ill for sure bring him if it happens again or more frequently

45 minutes for a seizure from onset to being normal? That is a long time. If the pupil difference (anisocoria) is new or changes- the kitty does need to see a vet. I'd try keeping track of the seizures- dates, how long etc. and maybe ask about something like CBD oil that might also help with his CKD also ( reduces inflammation , lowers blood pressure)

Ill look into the cbd :) he has seen a vet unfortunately Id have to bring him to a neurologist and right now im putting my money towards treating/helping his ckd first then ill bring him to the neurologist. The neurologist said epilepsy but epileptic fits only last a few minutes apparently

Can his numbers after injection for the past 2 cycles mean that his food is too high carb? Its the new weruva bff play they are supposed to be low carb (around 5%). Or could it be something else? Obviously his cycle has been out of wack since he got his shot 2 hours late 2 days ago, hopefully its that.. Thanks @Wendy&Neko
