    Ok, need some help. Mimi just dropped to
    47 @ +2.5
    Just fed her some of her regular raw and some of the canned food in question (Dave’s formula that I believe is LC because of the ingredients but do not know)

    @carfurby
    @Wendy&Neko

    @Marje and Gracie

    Should I have done MC or is LC good to first try out? I think she’s pretty carb sensitive.

    So I fed Mimi some LC at the 47 mark- and just tested now- 40 minutes later (I lost track and didn’t do it at the 20)
    And now she’s 39

    Currently feeding her HC

    Do I need some karo syrup

    Screw I just rubbed karo on her gums too because I thought she would have seen some kind of spike after the first food.

    Print yourself a copy of this information
    Keep it handy for times like this

    • Depending on how carbohydrate sensitive your cat is, feed approximately a teaspoon or less of gravy from high carb food or high carb food only. (If you have a cat with GI issues, using a couple of drops of syrup plus low carb food is an alternative.)
    • Test again in 15 – 20 min. Depending on the numbers, give more HC food.
    • Repeat the above steps every 15 – 20 min. until your cat tests in the 50 mg/dL (2.8 mmol/L) or above range for 2 consecutive tests. Continue to feed in small amounts to keep numbers in a safe range.
    • Test in 30 - 40 min. and repeat the test and feed process until there are 2 consecutive tests where numbers are stable or rising.
    • Test in an hour and follow the same steps.
    DO NOT become complacent. If numbers have risen after one or two tests, it’s important to continue testing. Numbers may bobble up and down as the HC food and/or Karo wear off. DO NOT get one test where your cat has risen from low numbers into the 50s and go to sleep or leave the house. You are putting your cat in a risky situation. When in doubt, leave HC food out.

    Rosa --

    These are very unusual times. Some of our members, even those where it may be their daylight hours when it's early AM in the US, are dealing with COVID-19, just like we are or have lives outside of the Board. Everyone is stressed. Some of our night owls, like Sandy, sometimes do go to sleep at earlier hours (on occasion).

    As a general rule, if numbers are in the 40s, you want to intervene with MC, if not HC food. As Sandy cut and pasted, there is a sticky note on dealing with low numbers. You've also done this before. Ideally, you learn over time what type of carb food works for your cat and, more importantly, you learn how to deal with low numbers. That doesn't mean people won't be here to provide support but you need to feel confident in your ability to get the numbers back up especially if it's one of those days when the board is slow.

    I understand. I was panicking. When Mimi has a pre shot number of 21 a couple of cycles ago it hit me that she’s capable of having something like that, what else could she pull?

    I hope everyone is staying safe.. here in New York it’s a mad house.

    Nice job Rosa! You're such a pro at this now:bighug: You just popped Mimi right outta those limes! You rock.;)
    Moey has been swan diving into the deep end of the lagoon lately. I couldn't get him outta the limes for about 2 hours a few days ago. Thought I was going to pull my hair out. These cats!
    I hope you have a great day. Get some cat naps in:bighug:

    Thank you!! That brings my spirits up! Mimi had a pre shot number of 21 the other day- which completely blew my mind and sent me back into some hysterics of “wow just when I thought I figured her out!”

    there was a dog here a few weeks ago for 3 days- She doesn’t like dogs and hid a lot of it until she knew she wasn’t around. Well, straight after that is when her blood sugar started rising and I got her up to 2 units pretty quickly. Learned my lesson there!

    I know it's scary handling things on your own, but you did a good job dealing with things last night. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

    Yup, we are self-isolating here on the farm - just a bit more isolated than normal. As part of my self-care plan, I'm limiting how much I'm surfing around on the net - maybe others are doing the same? I'm out of my regular routine, so I need to establish a new routine... at least for now.

    You don't give yourself enough credit Rosa! :bighug:You are doing super with little Mimi. She is in such good hands.

    I heard that New York is getting hit pretty hard. Time to just turn into a hermit for awhile until things get back to normal.

    Stay safe and stay in!
