Curious what everyone's cats eat during a day ?
Smokey used to eat 11oz a day and now hes only eating like 2 oz in the morning and then over night will scarf down like 7 oz . Hes on zofran every 12 hours and mirataz once a day. I'm curious if it has to do with the timing of the mirataz. But I'm curious to know what the "normal " is .

My two cats are not diabetic but Harry eats 120 grams a day ( 4 Oz) and he’s nearly 11.5lb and Clover eats 150 grams (5 Oz ) a day and she 10.5lb.

156 grams a day, eaten during 4 times a day, plus evening snack shrimps and raw beef.

Nigel was going straight downhill until our vet said this isn't working, free feed him, that changed everything. We had nine cats and a dog back then, some liked to eat in privacy and at different times so pulling the food didn't work. We did the same with sugar cat #2 Noah. Neither cat gained excessive weight. My methods weren't exactly scientific especially with cats roaming from dish to dish and a dog who loved wet cat food.
Any obese cat we've had came to us in that shape. Lewis acts like every meal could be his last but 100,000 years of instinct tells every cat that.

That makes me feel so much better! I thought they needed to eat more than that .

Caloric content of the food will also have a factor that needs to be considered. It's like comparing eating a BIG Mac and a bunch of celery. Both weigh the same but the Big Mac has more calories.

I couldn't find the link but I had the mathematical formula written down.

13.6 x ideal weight in lbs + 70 = number of calories the cat needs.

If someone can find the link and post it, that would be appreciated.

Also, take a look at the body condition of the kitty.

Guess I'm over feeding my guys. Afraid there would be a major uproar if I fed less right now.
Claudio scarfs everything down in a heartbeat. Maybe once he gets more regulated he'll eat slower and I can feed them both less.

Mine would rebel also. I have 5 cats and they each go through 2 cans of Friskies per day.

I add a bit of water to each of Freckles' mini meals (I use an auto feeder) - make her feel more full I think.

Civvies also get water added to their meals.

I should probably have added both my cats are fed a raw diet so cats on a raw diet sometimes eat less. Mind you Harry would eat twice as much as I give him but he would get fat and he never asks for food inbetween his 4 feeds a day but he never refuses any extra tidbits.
