    Hi All,

Another stray cat has just 'shown' up (or someone dumped him) on our farm. He's very petted and all lovey dovey and while scratching him, I noticed a flea on him. I'm currently checking with the neighbors to see if someone has 'lost' a cat, but in the mean time, I would like to get rid of those fleas for him. Is there a home remedy that someone has used with success to get rid of fleas? I ask this only because I am an hour away from the city and I'm not sure if my vet will give me anything for him without seeing him first.

    Thanks in advance!

I cant think of any home remedies. You will need something not just for the fleas but for the eggs. I dont know how well the product work that they sell places like PetSmart. We dont get fleas here so...Maybe call your vet and just ask?

I read Capstar works. I think tractor supply has it.

    Awww how sweet. :p
I would take you up on your offer but...Fleas dont do well in the low desert. I think they would suffer too much .:D:joyful::smuggrin:

You can try to give him a bath with Dawn dishwashing liquid...it needs to be the one with a duck on the front. A flea comb really helps too.

There are also topicals you can get that don't require a script like Frontline, Advantage or a Seresto collar.

Capstar works good, but only kills the live fleas currently on the cat. It only lasts 24 hours.

If you get Capstar that will kill the ones that are on him quickly. He still will need something that lasts longer. For the past couple years I have been using Cheristin. It seems to work better than Advantage or Frontline.

This will have to happen when DH is not in the house... he's already said "No more cats in the house!" lol;)

Thanks everyone for some brand names that I can search and see if they are available in our Canadian stores.
