Rags is my diabetic kitty. He is approx. 14 years old. He has been a diabetic since March 2013. He is currently using Levemir Insulin 1 unit B.I.D. He just started this insulin In January. He had been on Lantus 3 units B.I.D.
He eats Fancy Feast always with water added. Sometimes he eats Cole, Salmon shreds. When he was first Diagnosed he was 13 lbs. and ate approx. 3 cans of F F twice a day, no dry food at all. Now if I can get him to eat 3/4 of a can in the a.m. and 1 1/4 in the evening. Every time I try to do a curve he stops eating. He has neuropathy and Pancreatits. Also arthritis in hips and elbows. I have buponoraphene for his pain, but he will not let me put it on his ears. Cannot give pill form it makes him scared to death of every thing. He runs from everything.
Rags is not your normal kitty. He does the exact opposite of a diabetic cat as far as eating when his numbers are high or low. He is constantly swatting me and trying to bite me if I try to pet him after he eats. He is a loving kitty, just a strange kitty. He came in my yard at 7 months of age , came in my house and never left. He now weighs 17 lbs. and is long haired. He told me he was sick, took him straight to the Vet. She diagnosed as Diabetic.
