Hi and heartfelt thanks to all for this life-saving site!
Buster was a barn cat, and I've had him for a year. He is the sweetest, well-mannered boy who is happy to stay indoors all the time now! His weight increased from 11 to 16 pounds, and he was dv'd FIV positive. The vet recommended Purina dry.
In August noticed PU and PD, took him to the vet, and diabetes dx confirmed by BS over 400. Vet rx'd Purina ProPlan dry and 1u ProZinc twice a day. No info regarding research and education provided. Throughout the weeks no change in sxs, and vet increased dose to 3u BID (by increments of 0.5). Still no change in sxs, so she recommended to drop him off for hourly glucose tests.
That's when I found this site. I immediately obtained supplies for home testing and started the transition to wet food - using extreme caution.
He is now on wet/raw, and I'm giving him 2u in the evenings and anywhere from 0-2 u in the morning - depending on whether I can be home through the day to observe him.
His PD/PU sxs are much improved, his behavior is always happy, but the numbers bounce around.
If he was still surviving only on field mice you know diabetes would not be an issue! It's that American diet that makes us get it!
Thank you for your time and dedication in helping us all.
