I'm an 18 year old student from northern Maine. I work at an animal shelter.
My sugar kitty was Max. We got him (and his late sister, Sophie) from family friends whose cat had kittens. His birthday was ~8/2011 and adoption date was 10/6/2011. I got them when I was 10 years old.
Max was first diagnosed with diabetes in May 2019. He was put on ProZinc and we did home testing every morning and night. Unfortunately, we struggled to get his glucose well-regulated, even after consulting with his vet many a times, and he experienced DKA on August 24th 2019. He was hospitalized but his condition diteriated very quickly and he had to be euthanized on August 27th 2019.
He was my best friend. He loved chirping at birds, getting belly rubs, and snuggling up with a good book. He was hilariously jealous of me, and once even charged at a small dog that I was petting "instead" of him.
I miss him very much. </3
I know there are so many cats out there, especially ones with chronic illnesses, that desperately need loving homes and in the future, when I am ready, I plan on adopting another kitty, maybe even a sugar kitty, in his honor.

(Management was: ProZinc insulin 1.5 units, twice daily. Meter was AlphaTrak 2.) RIP Maxy. You were my best friend. I won't ever be the same without you </3. 8/2011 - 8/27/2019
