Well my name is Stef and I am now a bit of an old hat when it comes to the wonderful world of diabetic pet care. I have spent years rescuing animals, primarily kitties. I haven't been able to do so in many years due to my living situations and both of my cats having so many medical problems that made it too difficult to continue to do more than offer consultation/assistance in other ways for others doing rescue work. I spent around 8 years working with the Feral Cat Coalition as a volunteer leading post-op and about 10 years volunteering as a tech with the Columbia Humane Society, specifically working with the quarantined kitties. Then two years serving on the board of directors when I was incapable of continuing my work due to my home-life and illness of my kitty King Tut.

Fast forward to some further insane times of my life (yeah there's a theme here for some reason) and now my little baby who I rescued at 5 days old - Hedwig, was diagnosed with diabetes. Initially it has been controlled decently with diet, nothing crazy, low 200's. However, with everything that has happened she recently became very sick and well, now she has fatty liver disease on top of everything else.

Hedwig is an amazing cat and a fighter - she was also diagnosed with a genetic disorder known as; pericardioperitoneal diaphragmatic hernia. This means half of her liver and her gallbladder are located in her chest cavity. Honestly there is a lot of crazy happening right now. Tut had some insane health issues and frankly between the two of them, I'd have never ever have known about a few of them or dealt with them if it wasn't for either of them.

Right now Hedwig is fighting insulin dependent diabetes, gallstones, suspected IBD, and she has on and off again pancreatic issues that require palliative care. However, she's a trooper and does a really good job with keeping me on my toes.

That's a wee bit about us at this time. Hopefully I can update it with good news at some point. I actually love doing a billion other things and I used to be a workaholic, I love travel, languages, animals, dance... Right now my life is caring for my kitty as she is more than worth it to me. <3
