I am cofounder of our nonprofit Sisters Animal Sanctuary in Elk Grove, CA. Currently we have about 100 cats (about half are feral) at our sanctuary and Muffin is of course one of them. We are a no-kill sanctuary and many of our cats are adoptable but not desirable due to health issues, age, feral, or just not pretty enough for some people, etc. You can read about our sanctuary at www.sistersanimalsanctuary.com.
Muffin was one of our rescues from a huge rescue project Sisters headed up called the Regency Park Project (you can search the internet for more info on that project). She had been adopted for 8 years and then the owners decided that they no longer wanted her because her vet bill for a skin condition would be $200!! Our policy is any cat adopted through Sisters has right of return to us regardless of age so we immediately took her back. They treated her skin condition with something they heard about on the internet. Needless to say it was not the right treatment and we had to start over. She was doing great until she started to lose weight and her blood test revealed diabetes. This is very difficult to monitor in our environment as we have other kitties that require medical care as well. We will always try to do our best and hopefully we can get Muffin on the right track and into remission. One can only hope.
