I first joined this board in 2010 when Odie was diagnosed with diabetes. He had a host of other health issues and has since passed away. From Odie, I got comfortable treating diabetes and with regular home testing. His other health issues made his diabetes hard to control, so I had to be very vigilant.

In May 2019, one of our current cats, Panda, was diagnosed with diabetes. It was likely triggered by longterm use of Prednisolone for IBD. Her bloodwork was fine in Dec 2018, but she had double knee surgery in May 2019 and diabetes was uncovered in related blood work. We are tapering her off of Prednisolone and switching to Budesonide, and have started insulin treatment. Our hope is remission, but we will deal with whatever comes.

Panda meds: Lantus (1 unit twice per day, started May 25), Prednisolone (currently tapering off), Pepcid, Gabapentin, Cyproheptadine (prn), Cerenia (prn)

    Panda issues:
IBD (treated for several years), double knee surgery in May 2019 (luxating patellas), diabetes.
