Mum to nine cats over 21 years, seven have now passed OTRB. Bob joined the family when abandoned in our garden just after we arrived in France in 2006. Joe (who was 20 in Aug 2018) is one of our original feline family and is a carnaptious healthy old git.

Bob diagnosed on 16 Jan 2018 after his weight dropped from 7kg in November 2017 to 5.5kg. His weight is now stable at 5.8kg.

Insulin: initially 2ui am/pm Caninsulin (raised to 3ui am). 18/2/18 switch to Lantus (variable dosage to try to reduce BG). 5/4/18 switch to Prozinc. Variable dosing due to what the vet calls "a complicated form of diabetes". Diagnosed with Kidney Disease 17 January 2019 - in process of changing diet.

Diet: low carb wet food plus weekly treat of fresh cooked chicken and/or fish. Rare kibble treat.

I use an AlphaTrak pet meter with Freestyle Lite strips (except when I run out of strips and revert to a human meter). I also spend a lot of time lurking in the undergrowth with a tray and a pot to collect Bob's urine for ketone testing!
