Sandra and Barney(GA) went to Rainbow Bridge on April 24, 2003.

Meet Alexander, age unknown possibly 12+ years. Am going to give him his first shot, BG 365 at vets yesterday.205 this am, successful ear Contour jab.
ProZinc one unit.Don't know what is what in food and insulin, been away from the board for over ten years .

He was a stray trapped about this time of year on my porch in 2005, had heartworm and blood infection.A sweet boy.

Feel like a newbie all over againTook him in yesterday for a possible UTI.Barney's old vet was there yesterday. She gave me a verbal primer refresher on do's and dont's.r
Now to get him to eat low carbs, fussy eater to boot.DM, not going over, know grain free is good.He is such a picky sneaky night eater.
Wish me well, and MERRY CHRISTMAS to old beans and newbeans

    Welcome back to FDMB.

Cat Info has a lovely food list with the protein fat & carb 5 calories in the column on the right side. Anything with under 10% is OK for regular feeding. Friskies pates and Fancy Feast Classic Pates are usually low cost options. (I feed poultry versions, since cats don't go deep sea fishing, nor take down cattle!)

In the PZI/ProZinc forum, there are some notes on dosing with ProZinc you may find helpful.

What insulin did you use last time?

Congratulations and welcome back. Taking care of a diabetic cat is just like riding a bike, you may be rusty, may have forgotten, but it will quickly come back to you.

Are you familiar with the google spreadsheet that we now have to track his BG's? You can add it to your signature, so that it will always be visible and available for all to see and advise.

Welcome Back Sandra!! I am not on all that much.. biggest change is insulin, Lantus (aka Glargine) and Levemir rule, and ProZinc the vet insulin works for some kitties.

Yes perfect timing, just in time for the holidays!!

Sorry just getting back.Thank you all for replies.Especially thanks for the food info.Haven't given him a shot myself, the vet has only given him 1 unit, on Thursday. Just hometested his ear, 167 this a.m. He goes for an ultrasound on his heart on Monday, cloudy on xray.He had heartworm back when and gets Revolution every month. Not sure if it is damage from the h/w or what. They don't want me to give him insulin under 300.The vet yesterday(vet covering for my vet) said they are happy if 300 is seen, and if 250 even a better number, in reference I think to regulation). As I said she is not my regular vet, thank you).Barney got regulated on PZI.Will check out that forum.Got to give him his a/b.

Again, thank you all for your input. We will check back in.
