Oreo Passed Away

Hi All,

Our dear Oreo finally gave way to the side effects of the drugs for his GI lymphoma..... he couldn't walk well this morning and we knew it was time. The vet said we did the right thing since he was is a lot of pain. We are in shock, I guess. We cared and nursed him for diabetes and lymphoma every day for two years, so our bond was very tight. The vet asked us to bring our other cat, Debbie to his office so she would know when he passed. He felt she would be aware of Oreo's passing and not look around for him at home. I had never heard of that, but it makes sense. We were all with him. I just want to thank all of you for your support and faith in my ability to care for Oreo. We are so sorry for your loss. It's hard enough at any time but I don't know why the holidays make it seem even harder. Oreo gave it a great fight and you were right beside him all the way. It's so important for us to listen when they tell us they are ready to cross. Oreo will be ever close in your heart.

 

I'm so sorry to hear that it was time for Oreo! I'm so glad that you could all be together to help him onto his next journey. Prayers and hugs sent for peace in your hearts that you will heal with time.

It is never easy to lose one of our kitties. It's doubly hard when you have worked so hard to provide a wonderful quality of life given all that Oreo and you were juggling and harder still for it to be at this time of year. Once the shock and the acute pain pass, I hope this will be a time of year that you can look to celebrate the bond you will always have with your Oreo.

Fly free Oreo and land softly. There are many who we dearly love who are waiting for you at the Bridge to keep you company until you are reunited with the one you love best.

Carol, I am so very very sorry to read this. You have been such a good mom to Oreo, he knew it too. He will be forever grateful to you for letting him go, for knowing it was time. Do know that Oreo will never be far away, always within your minds eye, tucked away in the corner of your heart. Fly free little one. You will always be remembered, never forgotten.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I always show my other pets the body for the same reason. They seem to just know then and don't look so hard for them.
I think they can grieve harder if they don't know.

I am so sorry for your loss especially during this time of year. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. It sounds like you did so much to give him the best life possible despite illness.

 

Carol, I'm so sorry to see this- another of our precious companions had to leave - it's so difficult to say goodbye but you took away his pain. My heart goes out to you - it's always so difficult but the holidays seem to make it a little worse -

I'm hoping that the wonderful time you spent together and the love and memories you made will soothe you in your grief - and make you smile one day as you look back on all the love - they leave a big hole in our lives and heart and it never quite fills again.

I am so sorry Oreo had to cross to the bridge. I'm sending all my prayers and vines to your heart, hoping they will help bring you comfort. While you cuddle and hug your family, i'm sure Oreo is there with you.

Oh, my heart breaks for you. It is so hard but you heard him telling you it was time. Now he is healthy and young running and playing with all the others GA, loving you for taking such good care and loving him!

Thanks To All Of You on Oreo' Passing

Dear Friends,

I was overwhelmed by the love and prayers you sent me about Oreo's passing. When I joined up with FDMB, I always said it was "a club I didn't want to belong to". But I am proud to have been a part of this group for the past two years. You taught my husband and me how to deal with feline diabetes using daily testing. At first our vets must have thought we were nuts doing daily testing but our vets learned from us! They asked us to show them Oreo's spreadsheet so they can see his BG patterns! At the very beginning of my journey with Oreo's diabetes and GI lymphoma, I really didn't think I could do all this and posted a message "How does having a diabetic cat effect your lives?" So many of you wrote me with your own stories on how you were coping day to day. It gave us courage and confidence reading your messages. Without you we couldn't have done it. At various times, I had questions, often at odd hours, but there was always somebody there to soon answer them about diet and low BG or insulin.

The hard part now is dealing with the grief and sense of emptiness we have right now. I never realized the special bond forged with an owner and a cat when the owner cares for him as we have done. I'm sure some of you will attest to this from past experience. Our Debbie cat is also having a tough time, so we are giving her extra love and attention. Hopefully the pain in our hearts will ease soon and we will be able to get another cat friend for Debbie.

Again, you have been the most wonderful and special group of friends....and even though we have never met in person, I feel close to you all in spirit. God Bless,
